Unfortunately, the hand was just a hand, and so had nowhere to wear a hat.

Unfortunately, the side effects of the de-hex ricocheted from hat to hat, hat to glove and glove to hat in a violent cycle.

Unfourntately he fell into the water with a hungry shark.

Grendels aren't so bad, but I love Ettins! They're adorable! The complexity of creatures is quite amazing.

Fortunately the hand is impossible to eat, as proven by every norn, grendel, geat, ettin, beast, pest, plant, weed and critter that has ever tried to devour it.

Fortunately, the hand knows kung-fu, as learned by slapping a millenia of Norns.

Unfortunately, kung fu moves don't work well underwater.

Fortunately, being underwater has seemingly no effect on the hand, as it moves just as fast in water as out of it.

Unfortunately, this triggered the shark's self destruct mechanism, which was designed to destroy everything in the radius if it suspects tampering from outside sources.

Fortunately, the robo-sharks were designed by the late, incredibly stupid pirates; the shark's self-destruct method was thermite based; thermite does not burn underwater.

Unfortunately, this fact was scientifically inaccurate. Due to already containing it's own oxygen, thermite does not need any extra air to react and indeed does burn (though not explode) underwater or even in space.
