Redone Personality Test? 1 | 2 | |

Recently (read: a few minutes ago, as of this post), I was thinking about the old Creatures Personality Test. It was a nice quiz (if I remember correctly, I kept alternating between Bondi and Treehugger, with Grendel popping up once), but by today's standards it's probably a little dated. Heck, it might not even be around anymore.
Then I had another thought: How about we, as a community, come up with a new personality test, that would be far more in depth than the old one? I think we could make something grand, what with all the artists and writers running around the CC.
A few things worth thinking about:
*The sort of questions that should be on the quiz.
**My thoughts: Personally, I think we should avoid explicitly Creatures-related questions, or answers that look like they were made by an actual creature.
*What sort of breeds should show up.
**My thoughts: I think we should just stick to the official breeds. Maybe expand the results to include the breeds from C1 and C2, as well as C3/DS (but not C4, since who knows when that's going to be out, and we can't really deduce the C4 norns' hat from what's been given so far).
So, your thoughts?

I think it's a great idea.
I agree that not explicitly Creatures-related questions would be best. For one thing, it would make it harder for a person to guess which species/breed a certain answer will give them. I know some people like being able to choose which result they get, but not only is that cheating, if the answers are that obvious then you don't have the option to "play it straight" and get a surprise answer if you want to. That's always annoying.
I also agree that official breeds would be best, under most circumstances. Most third-party breeds (eg. the Beowulfs) have basically the same hat as an official breed, so it would be difficult to justify including most of them. But there are a few exceptions.

I think it might be nice to include a few 3rd-party breeds that are distinctly underrepresented by the official breeds, i.e. swimming norns, norns with wings, etc.

I agree: This sounds like it would be something that would truly benefit from an update! It would be rather fun to incorporate a lot more breeds since, like you mentioned, the original was very limited (though still fun!).
The questions should somehow relate to the breeds, but in a very vague way so it doesn't seem all too obvious. It might also be a little tough to differentiate between some of the breeds that are mostly reskins of one another: Then again, we could always go by the official storylines behind some of the breeds to help out!

Would it be something like finding a Myers-Briggs 'type' for each breed, and then adapting a Myers-Briggs test to be more Creaturesy?

If it's the test I'm thinking of, that was actually mine- I don't think I moved it when I changed webhosts, so you're right, it's not on the net anymore. I still have the files laying around, though.
I pretty much don't have anything to add here except agreement- sticking to official breeds would be best and it's more fun if the answers aren't too obvious. I definitely made them too obvious on the old one but in my defense I was twelve.
I don't have a clue how to make something more complicated (the old one was whipped together from a template I found), but it's a fun idea.
Sorry about the thread necromancy! This was just kind of a funny blast from the past. |

I might be able to code a personality test, if anyone's interested. (Just the coding, I'll leave the breeds and questions up to someone else.) |

I wonder if it couldn't be done in time for the CCSF...

If we get on it soon, it might be done quite a bit before then. I think the thread bump was actually rather helpful - I was rather disappointed when discussion dropped off the first time.
To belatedly address Malkin's question: I'm not sure if I get that entirely, but I imagine something like that would work.

How about all the official breeds that have distinct personalities or memorable traits:
Normal Norn
Worker Ettin
Desert (Hoarder) Ettin
Jungle Grendel
C2 Norn/Grendel (This might be insulting to the person who gets it )
Ron Norn
Forest Norn
Banshee Grendel
Hardman Norn
Treehugger Norn
Bondi Norn
Magma Norn
Toxic Norn
Frog Norn (Everyone forgets about these, but I think they'd be a good addition) |

I like to think of the C2 Norns as just simpler types, like myself.
Sounds pretty good to me. I'd say rather than just "Normal Norn" it be an original C1 Norn, seeing as they provided the basics. Other than that, I'd add in the Harlequins, and the basic misunderstood C1 Grendel. Eh?

Well, if you've offered to write the questions, then I think you can add in whichever other breeds you want.

Sounds good. Harlequin Norns don't really differ from the Chichis, but people are always applying personalities to them, so we might as well have them. I also really like the idea of the misunderstood Grendel! |

As mentioned in the first post, my suggestion is to use official breeds only (including C1 and C2 breeds). Most third party breeds share a hat with an official one or don't vary that much from them.
Starter breeds (Banana, Hebe, Bengal, etc.) should probably be lumped into one option for their respective game since besides appearance they all share the same hat anyway.
C1 and C2 breeds is where it gets interesting since unlike C3/DS there isn't a wide variety of additional breeds to choose from.
*The official C1 breeds: The three starters (Banana, White-Haired Pixie, Horse) + Purple Mountain + Forest + Ron + Grendel. Of those, I'm not sure if the PMNs differ enough from the three starter breeds to warrant them getting their own result.
*The official C2 breeds: The three starters (Desert, Emerald, Pixie) + Golden Desert + Frog + Grendel + Ettin. Like with the PMNs, I'm not sure if the Golden Deserts differ enough from the default breeds to warrant a separate response.
There's also the question of how to separate the three game's grendel and ettin breeds from one another, assuming they all wind up on the tests.
Here's what I'm thinking the list should look like:
*C1 Norn (Banana)
*C1 Forest Norn
*C1 Ron Norn
*C1 Grendel
*C2 Norn (Desert)
*C2 Frog Norn
*C2 Grendel
*C2 Ettin
*C3/DS Norn (ChiChi)
*Hardman Norn
*Toxic Norn
*Treehugger Norn
*Bondi Norn
*C3 Grendel
*Banshee Grendel
*C3 Ettin
I left off the PMNs, Golden Deserts, and the ChiChi clone breeds since apart from appearances they don't differ much from the default norns of their respective games (though adding them might work if we can differ them enough from the defaults for the sake of the quiz).
Thoughts?
Edit: And I'm ninja'd.

Lovely! I can get started writing questions tonight, if you like!
Edit: I'm flexible on it, actually. I thought it might be nice to have a wide variety of differing breeds and personalities (In game personalities or no), to have a more diverse quiz.

It would be rather cool to have it integrated on here, but it does not really matter to me where it is hosted. Just as long as it happens, I will be happy. (and if it stays around for a while... *glances at all the dead Creatures sites*)

Man, aquatic creatures really are underrepresented in the official set, aren't they? I guess that's where Frogs come in.
What sort of personality do we want to attribute to the starter breeds? C2 as "simpler types" is cute, but I'm drawing a blank for C1 and Chichis. |

C1 Norns are sort of "Tabula Rasa"; they learn most of their knowledge and behavior rather than being born with it. I would describe them as adaptable, sociable, and needing to be nurtured.
Chichis come to think of it are a little different from Bruin/Bengal/Civet because they have kind of a machinery obession, and travel using portals. |

So C1 Norns are your basic adaptable all around type person, and Chichis are the nerdy types? Nerds are so gosh darn adorable~

I've always tended to see the PMNs as somewhat vain and loving parties - it must be something about their hair (and the girl's makeup).

While we're tossing around ideas, here's some for the ChiChi clones (I'd prefer it if they got in if the Harlequins do - having just the Harlequins out of them seems to me like personal bias considering who's writing the questions):
*Fallow: Shy, prefers the solitude of the forest, very loyal to whatever friends they earn (though that sounds like a Treehugger Norn)
*Astro: Inventive, spends a lot of time looking at the sky (studying?), sometimes forgets to eat
*Siamese: Proud, Arrogant, Occasionally spoiled (Doesn't sound like a pleasant result, does it?)
*Zebra: Social, Fine with being normal
*Harlequin: Goofballs who like trying to be entertaining, sometimes to the point of annoyance
Edit: Another thing to consider before working on the questions - how many questions should there be? Considering the wide array of breeds that stand to be on the quiz, I think this could stand to be a rather long quiz that's split up into multiple sections.

Rest assured luv, I have absolutely no personal bias. Just the first breed that came to mind when trying to think of a silly-type personality.
Love those ideas, by the way! Very very good ideas indeed!

I like the ideas. As to the amount of questions: Maybe it's possible to have a small quiz and a big quiz, or to let the player choose how many questions will be asked. For the answers that were given, we could give the best match. If it's becoming a too long quiz, maybe there could be an option to save your progress in your CCaves account (if it's hosted here).
Keep up the good work! I can't wait to take the test.

Also, if it's possible within the coding, it would be more natural if some answers to some questions would grant points towards more than one breed. That would open upo for many end results without necessarily an ocean of options to each question. Many breeds have several things in common with other breeds (hardmans, for example, are like grendels in many ways). |

I've got that all taken into account with the questions I'm cooking up! For example... A preference towards gadgets might count towards both Chichis and Desert Ettins.
