My, I dare say, I seem to have stumbled upon a thread of hilarious stories, true to life in nature. By jove!
Anyway, this is a thread where you can talk about the humorous incidents you observe on your day to day basis. Friends being friends, animals being animals, enemies bringing you chocolate ice cream (sporting!), all can be posted here.
So, without further ado:
One of my school friends, very particular person, has a current obsession. We had to read some article denouncing Avatar's "socialist" message, and my friend was most upset by the fact that they had called the place where the Navi lived, Pandora, a planet, when it was actually a moon. Several weeks later he brings this up AGAIN, sparking another one of my friends to argue that it was orbiting a gas giant, which counts as a "brown star", which means Pandora counts as a planet, further launching much arguments and irritated waving of hands.
Now I happily enjoy somehow slipping the "Awesome Planet, Pandora" into conversation to see his reaction.

About two or three years ago, I wrote a time-travel love story entitled Relativity. It certainly wasn't a great one, but it meant a lot to me and I put a lot of effort into writing it, and I considered it one of my best works. My friends felt the same, being my friends and all, but apparently it did have some capacity to move them, in the case of a close friend of mine who goes by the nickname of Envy.
One of the main turning points in Relativity revolves around an old stuffed mammoth that the main character, Vince, finds while helping his mother move.
The introduction and explanation of the stuffed mammoth was apparently so emotionally moving that merely mentioning the word "mammoth" is enough to launch Envy, a teenage boy who frequently takes steps to assert his manliness, into hysterics.

One of the funniest things that happened to me was something involving Creatures. I was at school looking for some downloads for Docking Station, and I came across the Pink Poodle Ettins. Curious, I clicked their website to be greeted by an absurd bright pink page. There was a guy sitting next to me, who looked at my screen, and said "What the hell?".
I also had people making fun of me whenever I type "Helen's Bibble Directory" because they mistake the word "Bibble" for "Bible". |

This is one of those "amusing rather than hilarious" moments. The other night I was walking up the highstreet with a friend of mine and we came up to a shop which obviously wasn't open for serving customers, but had the lights were on and the doors open. When we got closer I noticed there were some planks of wood and quite a loud noise coming from the shop, sawing wood, hammers, general carpentry. I turned around to my friend and said "What do you think they're up to in there?"
She paused for a moment, as if she was analysing the sound of the sawing
"Painting." she said.

Not long ago my mom and I sat down to play Transformers Monopoly. The little game pieces are shaped like different characters, and I picked Optimus Prime, not realizing she had chosen Soundwave... who are extremely similar looking. Her knowing very little about Transformers, and the characters looking especially similar at that scale, we spent the beginning of every turn double-checking to make sure whose playing piece was whose.
Next time, I'm going with Grimlock.

Talking with boyfriend, trying to insult each other (long story):
B: You're a stupid blonde!
Me: So, what clade are sponges in again?
B: I... they don't have bones, right?
Me: Well that's right, they don't have bones. So don't about 85% of all animals.
B: Dammit. I don't know that sort of stuff. I know history, that's what I know.
Me: What party did Teddy Roosevelt found?
B: .....FFFFFFFFFFFF IT'S ON THE TIP OF MY TONGUE.
Me:
This prompts about five minutes of him begging me to tell him, and me refusing, as punishment for calling me a stupid blonde. Eventually, he sees a mutual friend and asks him.
B: [coming back] BULL MOOSE! YES! I KNEW IT! [sits back down]
Me: What was its official name?
B: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF....
I just up and told him it was Progressive Party.

So once, when me and my brother we young, my brother was playing warcraft 3, the undead campaign. Ten it starts getting late, and he closes the game.
Oddly, the speakers kept playing the background music (which was creepy, of course) continued playing even when he exited to the desktop.
He though it was odd, then turned off his pc.
The speakers kept playing.
Not only did they keep playing, it wasn't just the last second or so repeating, they did full songs, switched tracks, EVERYTHING!
He unplugged them from the powerstrip.
The kept going.
He unplugged them from the computer.
They kept playing.
He then decided to take out the back-up batteries.
There weren't any.
So there's my brother, in the middle of the night, speakers with no power or audio input playing creepy music.
So he shows them to our dad. He's dumbfounded and they just decide to throw them away, take out the trash, and be done with it.
They're probably in the middle of a landfill somewhere, still playing creepy undead campaign music.
This is a story we tell to all our relatives and friends. It's almost mandatory to hear this if you know us well enough.
...my only regret is that I wasn't awake to actually witness this event.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone. |

Dear Beatiful Boy,
You are one ridiculously attractive Speciman.

your fanclub.

That story about the speakers IS creepy. Reminds me of something that happened to me once.
I don't make a habit of watching scary movies, because I've always been a pretty jumpy person. But every once in a while I get a craving for some creepy stories. Preferably during the day (since it's less creepy than night time), when someone else is home (so I'm not home alone), but not in the same room (so I don't have to explain what the heck it is I'm doing). On the day the craving struck, my mom was taking a nap, so it was the perfect opportunity.
The list of what actually scares me is pretty selective. I'm not afraid of vampires, bats, spiders, etc., but ghosts, evil clowns and objects that move on their own are pretty high up there.
So I'm on my computer, reading some supposedly "true" story about a possessed clown doll that walks and moves on its own, when I start to hear this weird, soft, broken chiming sound, like little bells or some kind of music box. You know, a really high pitched tinkling. The sort that's supposed to sound cheerful and innocent, but that horror movies like to use because it sounds so out of place in a scary movie it just makes it even creepier. That kind.
At first I think it's coming from this web site, so I turn my speakers off. Like I expect, the sound stops immediately. For about two minutes, and then it starts again. But it's intermittent and stops after three or four notes.
Now that I know it's not coming from my computer, it occurrs to me that it's coming from somewhere close by and above my head. My desk was right next to this open closet, so I look up and spot this snow globe on the top shelf.
It's the kind with a little key in the bottom that plays music when you turn it, and the inside (which has cute kittens and mice wearing blue bows on it) spins when it plays.
While I'm standing there looking right at it, it makes the same noises, and turns until the kitten seems to be staring at me.
Needless to say I woke my mother from her nap and dragged her in to deal with it, because I wasn't about to touch it. While I was standing there explaining myself, it burst into 2-3 seconds of uninterrupted song, apparently just to spite me.
Mom stuck it in the hall closet, where it continued to play itself even more enthusiastically for the rest of the day, and the next day we packed it up and sent it off to some Goodwill-type store.
I understand that this happened in the middle of one of the hottest summers Washington had experienced in years, so there's a 99% chance that it was just the heat causing the inner workings to expand that made the snow globe spontaneously play itself. And I did feel bad about getting rid of it. It had originally been a gift from a friend, I'd had it for years and really loved the thing, but there was just no way I could stand having it around if it was going to keep playing itself like that.
Maybe in a few years I'll look online and see if I can't find another one like it. But not just yet. The mental image of that kitten in the blue bow slowly revolving to stare at me still gives me the creeps.
