With Christmas just under two weeks away, I think now is a socially acceptable time to talk about tinsel and reindeer.  What is Christmas like in your house? How does Christmas differ in your part of the world? How are you going to celebrate? What are you looking forward to the most? What would you like for Christmas? What are you getting your friends and loved ones? What is your favourite Christmas song? Also, why not share all your favourite pictures from the festive season too - your Christmas tree, Christmas dinner, or anything else that's special to you at this time of year. Spent most of yesterday shopping for christmas decorations and a tree and i was glad to be done since it was so crowded i also discovered the fun of decorating a tree when you have 2 young cats |

We put our Christmas tree up today!  Like you homer, we also have a kitten in house; we're taking a guess at how long it'll be before the baubles go for a burden! Matilda keeps trying to climb the tree. In our house, Christmas is sitting in front of the TV, exchanging presents and eating lots of food. I'm just looking forward to being a slob and doing absolutely nothing to be honest, and then having my boyfriend over for Boxing Day. Need to buy some Misteltoe... Come on everyone - share your version of Christmas! Let's get a discussion going. I'd love to see some more festive pictures.  What would you like Father Christmas to leave you under the tree? And what are you getting for others? |

Well, my parents are split up, and this is our first Christmas this way. Last Sunday, we got a tree at my dad's, and today we're gonna try and get a tree at my moms. We decided that me and my bro were to spend Christmas morning at my dad's, then mom would pick us up and we'd try to get over to my great-grandma's, but there's a lot of snow over there and my mom is afraid of driving in snow, so we may end up at my grandma's. I need to get a picture of my kitten playing with the orbs hanging from the tree at my dad's. So cute. Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone. |

Carrying on with the theme of kittens, my sister sent me a photo of ours up the tree yesterday. Last Christmas I was able to travel back from uni to join in with the decorating ceremonies but alas, not this year. I'll put up some pictures of our front room on this thread later. My mum always does a kind of art deco themed christmas, lots of Venetian masks and stylish silver and black. Not orthodox, or even that merry, but rather stunning none the less! I can't wait to see both your photos, Rain and Lucy! I've never seen what an Art Deco Christmas looks like before, and festive kittens are always cool. Also Rain, I hope you still have a nice Christmas, wherever you spend it. I'm getting my Mum a pair of pink fluffy pig slippers, my dad a box of chocolate brazil nuts, and my boyfriend a Bop it! (He wants to become a train driver - apparently these are good for practising your hand/eye co-ordination and your reactions). I have no idea what I'd like for Christmas myself. I know I'm getting a couple of Bruce Springsteen albums and I've asked for some clothes - that's about it! |

Present shopping for my dad is so difficult, he's a bit of a grump and doesn't seem to like *anything*. Ended up getting him some booze and a couple of DVDs (Four Lions and Full Metal Jacket). For my mum I got a clockwork art deco owl on a necklace. which sounds a bit more bizarre than it actually is. My sister is a little easier to shop for. She loves quite cutesy kitsch things, so I got her some stylishly garish jewellery and cupcake themed cosmetics. xmas is always a bit lonely for me, because the celebration itself lasts all of one evening. dinner and open the presents and it's pretty much done. My brothers don't really seem to like hanging out with me, so they are quick to leave... The month leading up to xmas, everybody is very busy with finals and with rush hours at their jobs to get things done, so i miss everyone a lot, but i know it can't be helped so i try not to whine too much about it. My offline friends all moved too far away for me to visit, and my online friends all have big family reunions and parties to attend. Yet i still always look forward to xmas itself... even if it's very short lived. I liked making people happy with small gifts attuned to their personalities and likes. My cat(6 years) likes to lay in front of the tree and admire the lights. My brother's cat (2 years) is here this year and it seems more and more tempted to try and climb the tree, with his fat belly he'll topple it for sure, so i keep an eye on him. My parents are separated (kind of... it's complicated) and Christmas is vastly different between the two houses. At my mum's house, where I live, we already have the lights up and we're probably going to get our tree next weekend, and we spend the weeks leading up to Christmas making candy and cookies. At my dad's house... you'd never know he celebrates the holiday. He doesn't do anything for it. The whole family usually gets together on Christmas morning to open presents and have brunch, and then we just kind of... go about the rest of the day. I haven't bought Christmas gifts yet; largely because I have no clue what most people want. I'm horrible at picking out gifts for people, unfortunately.You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. Happy birthday for tomorrow, C-Rex! My sister is also a Christmas birthday, born the day after boxing day. This morning I've been trying to get some of my christmas holiday packing done. I really hate being separated from my books. Usually I start off packing just the novels I haven't read yet and a couple of my favourite poetry collections, but before I know it I'm trying to cram the whole bookcase into my bag. I agree with Spykkie and Officer-1BDI. Christmas itself is very short-lived compared to the hype and build up beforehand, I think. I work in a supermarket and with every shift, it's like it's Christmas already! The whole store is decorated head-to-toe like Santa's Grotto, and it seems every customer I get is doing their big Christmas shop; buying presents and treats. I feel that by the time December 25th comes, the whole affair will seem a bit boring. This is why I'm very glad that Martin (my boyfriend) is spending Boxing Day with me for the first time this year. It'll be like a second celebration, and will be something different. What do you guys think? Which do you enjoy more - the days leading up to Christmas, or Christmas Day itself? I'd also love to see pictures of your Christmas decorations, C-Rex. |

I know people who spend the holiday actually spending time with their family members, but i guess that's what i get for having only brothers :/ Seems sisters like to hang out more. I like the joyful dress up of stores, but i think they start way too early around here, i mean they start pulling Halloween stuff off the shelves and putting up xmas stuff before Halloween even happened  I like xmas music on the radio, it's so much nicer to hear then all those tedious rap and emo songs that i kept hearing on there recently Twitt Stuff Insta Arts |

I'm looking forward to doing some Christmas shopping in Canterbury tomorrow. So far the town I've been doing it all (Chichester) hasn't really gone for much Christmas cheer for economic reasons. They have a tree in the middle of the highstreet but that's about this. As a result, its only about ten days to go until Christmas and I'm not feeling the hype at all. But I quite like that. Like you, Spykkie, I hated seeing the halloween displays being dragged off shelves before the day itself. Pfft! it baffles the mind when you realize how many last minute costume parties teens usually crop up on pretty much the day before Halloween. The stores are likely loosing many sales by removing the stuff too quickly. It always feels a bit off to me to see xmas stuff out in octobre o_o; but ho well. I hope everyone will like their gifts this year. I even made a gift for the creatures community by sharing links to norndolls, and prepared something for the festival! Aww haha! Your cat's so cute, Laura! Our Christmas is more simple this year, we weren't able to afford buying many presents, so I'm just enjoying the spirit of it all and hope to bake lots of Christmas desserts. It's something I find really fun. So far I've baked a pumpkin gingerbread that was a hit with everyone. I can't wait to get eggnog! Yummy. Yeah, they're very fun. A family friend just gave me a bundt cake pan for a gift, I've never made a bundt cake before. I enjoy christmas and all, but television christmas ads insult my intelligence. Not to mention christmas decorations several months early, football themed advent calendars, and advent calendars with under 3.5 grams of chocolate per day in them. There are indeed few things that make me angry, but the spirit of christmas being bought to us by consumer goods is one of them. On a happier note, I intend to partake in the yearly ritual of purchasing advent calendars and other chocolate based christmas products for low prices a few days after christmas. Yep, christmas suuure is spiritual. |

Did you know, they were selling samhain masks for five cents each a couple of days after samhain. There was a huge tub of them, and I bought seven dollars worth of them. I plan to sell them all next year. At a higher price, of course. |

Christmas with Bertrand and Lucia: It's finally the end of term, and after some hard work I'm ready to go home. Here's a sweet little snap from my window, I can hardly believe the trees were all green when I first came here.  Bertand is sitting snug at home and ready to greet me. He's even put on a festive little christmas bell!  'Helping' to decorate the tree, the little nuisance. Can you spot him?  Bertrand tried to say hello to the pretty angel bear, but didn't quite make it. Poor Bertie!  Unlike Officer 1BD1, I am not blessed with a helpful norn. Bertrand makes an adorable Christmas tree ornament, with his little festive bell. Makes me wish I had a mini Santa/elf hat/antlers for my Norn, or something.Here he is, being nosey at my Christmas cards.  And here he is again meeting Rudolph, who decided to get into the festive spirit by wearing a Christmas tree as a fetching new party hat.  Officer-1BDI: Thank you!
