 | Why are so many mixed breeds like this? I'm sure they've got a genome that doesn't crossbreed well, but why this? The baby creature has all Banana Norn features except for the head, regardless of the parents, and when it hatches, it's comatose for less than a second before it dies. |

It's to do with the way the genes are arranged. When you cross incompatible genomes, the appearance genes are almost always overwritten by some other genes, but the head appearance gene tends to be in the same place in both genomes, so it stays put.

Yep. I'm just wondering why that always happens. You'd think the creature would be able to keep more than just its head.
