Hey guys!
Just wondering...
Does anyone know how to add a genus to creatures 3/ds?
I would love to add The words "Root" and "Badseed" to the creature's vocabulary. I read it's possible on the creatures wiki, But I don't know where to begin. Can someone help me with this?
Thanks!

Hey, where on the wiki does it say this is possible? Because that's against my understanding. You could effectively do this by renaming existing genera in the vocabulary, but even if you can add a whole new genus that creatures could recognize, you'd need to expand their brains to accommodate for it.

I am almost positive that there is a catalogue file somewhere that governs what category which classifier is called. It might actually be possible to add new entries to the list. However, I am not certain and got no way of checking currently.

Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis...

Here's what it says:

"Other classes can be used, but by default they have no help name, and creatures cannot see them; you can change this, but it involves editing game files, and is therefore quite tricky to do multiple times without knowledge of how the game works - so is not good for players."

Here's where it says it:

Thank you for responding.

Ah I see, well I don't know the caos/engine side of this, so I'll explain the problems on the genetics side.

Most of the neurons in a creature's brain correspond to an object category. For a creature to be able to perceive an object, they need to have corresponding neurons in their vision, attention, noun, and smell lobes. For them to be able to interact with the object, they need to have a column of neurons in the combination lobe, each neuron corresponding to that object + an action like "eat food" or "push toy". So, to get a norn to see and interact with a "badseed" you'd need to add neurons to all of these lobes, make sure the tracts are all connected up properly, and make sure that the game is sending the correct input into the brain.

Basically, you'd need to make specialized norns to get use out of the new object categories.

The class names aren’t baked into the engine afaik, and if it’s not baked into the engine it’ll be modifiable. However, it’ll only work with your game and anyone you share the modifications with, if it can even be done. That plus the genetic modifications, are you sure you wish to put yourself through that?

Grendels aren't so bad, but I love Ettins! They're adorable! The complexity of creatures is quite amazing.

Probably not right now, but almost certainly during this upcoming winter. I don't know what app to use for modifying att, gen and gno files, and thus am not familiar with those codes. however, I am eager to learn. Thank you for the input.

Got it to work, so far no problems! [nsmile]

I take that back. probably will need to modify the gen, gno, and/or att files once I figure out which is which, and get the right apps.

This is an exciting development, as long as their brains are expanded, we could add a while bunch of species.

I'm wondering if we could do that in C1

Also, it appears to clash with pre- existing creatures, as well as worlds with pre-existing creatures. new worlds with new creatures (I. E. Eggs and not starter parents) work fine. Probably something to do with their brains.
But on the plus side, I got them to "eat root"! [ngrin]
