Dear Creaturescaves,
here's the thing,
I was planning on posting some of my agents with C16s that contain images I modified from c16s, some of which I obtained from preexisting agents using jagent. I didn't think about it at the time, but what if there were patents on them? I don't know what to do! ![[nscared] [nscared]](/images/smilies/emot_scared.gif)

I would be very surprised if someone has registered their third-party C16 files for copyright, and even more surprised if they came after you for recycling them. If you mean you used sprites from the original games, I think the community has basically collectively decided those are fair game since people are always converting stuff to and from other games.

If you feel really uncertain about it, you could always credit your sources. "Agent X by macoman. Sprites based on Agent Y by (name)" or something along those lines. Alternatively, depending how soon you plan on publishing, how urgently you want different sprites and how complex the agent in question is, you might be able to make or commission new sprites altogether. If you ask kindly enough, people might be willing to help you out.
Also, I agree with Freyla. When you used default C3/DS stuff, people usually don't mind at all. Generally you can see the resemblance anyway. The biggest problem here is when they are so similar that you mistake it for the original, which can be a little frustrating at times.

If they are based on sprites someone else made I'd consider contacting them for permissions if they are from c3/ds I wouldnt worry about it too much. |
