Creatures merchandise archival?

Hey everyone.

So i've been deep diving into Creatures history again for the past few days (that Creatures 3D document sparked something in me) and i've noticed that there is a surprising lack of info on Creatures merchandise. The Wayback Machine has some archived pages for the Creatures 2 store and Docking Station Cafe Press shop, but pictures don't seem to load. I also noticed that there are no screenshots or detailed descriptions of the Gameware Mall for the C3/DS Norn breeds. Promotional stuff like game store posters and event freebies are even more scarce (outside of some magazine pages and those two Creatures Online figures). I know that there wasn't much to begin with, but it feels like these things should be easier to find.

Are there any sources that archive this information that I am missing? If not, does anyone have access to any images or even recent online listings? I know there are things like Don's amazing collection pic, but even that isn't thorough and detailed on every item. I'm mainly doing this for research and archival purposes. I love stuff like this!

(Side note: I would wear that unreleased Cafe Press Docking Station cap EVERY day. [nhearts] )

I have some of the art files for a mousepad, unfortunately I was too young to really order things online at the time. D: I am unware of any real archives of that sorta thing.

I did happen to get a poster in my sealed C3 copy. will scan that in.

Appreciate that!

But yeah, I kind of figured that no one would have a hard drive full of this stuff. People don't really think to archive things like this for a lot of franchises, at least not in an easily accessible way. That's on top of Creatures itself already being niche both at release and in today's gaming spaces. Just feels like getting any kind of images for merch, advertisements, store setups, and more are harder than they already would be.

I think over the next few weeks i'll do some more digging on and off. Maybe try to find some people connected to the series to see if they have something to share?

In my experience, information on, and images of video game merchandise, promos, etc. seemed a bit more prevalent in older sites made back in the '90s and 2000s, while today, there seems to be more focus on collection videos and 'unboxings'. Back in the day, some of the larger gaming fansites were likely to have a 'merchandise' section, even if it were only a few pics and a set of captions, while some collectors were happy to share information on their collections on their personal sites or for other sites. However, I don't know if/how Creatures fansites back then covered merch and promos.

There used to be a website called 'Video Game Memorabilia Museum' which, while initially focused on the webmaster's Nintendo collection, would also accept fan-submitted information on pretty much any video game franchise, as well as a dedicated fan gallery section. Unfortunately, nothing Creatures-related was ever uploaded during its lifetime, but it was the nearest thing to a large-scale merchandise archive at the time.

As I said before, nowadays, it seems this kind of information is relegated to Youtube videos (in fact, the URL for the aforementioned 'Video Game Memorabilia Museum' now links to the webmaster's YT channel), although the occasional blog may also exist. I know there is a wiki for video gaming franchise plushies, but to my knowledge, nothing on a larger scale has cropped up since VGMM's collapse.

That's sort of my experience with the video game merchandise community at large, anyway. I wish you the best of luck in your search for Creatures merch information.

I know exactly what site you're talking about! I'm actually still subscribed to his YouTube channel. I vaguely remember fan submissions, but didn't realize it was prominent enough to be considered an archival page. Doesn't surprise me on Creatures though. Like, even the Wayback Machine didn't get images of the product pages it saved and most people wouldn't have bought the stuff anyways.

Idk, feel like i'm more fascinated by this than the average person should be lol. Part of the problem is that "Creatures" is such simple name that search results are full of things not related to the series at all. My attempts to streamline the info have been mixed too. Regardless, i'm gonna keep looking. I'm especially interested in finding out what merch didn't get made, but was in the prototype stage (like the Grendell Doll that would have coupled together with the Norn Dolls for Creatures 2).

I'll either update this thread or make a new one if I find some substantial stuff. [ngrin]
