CAOS codes issue (C3)

I'm currently playing C3 standalone, and one of the elevators in the Norn Terrarium has broken. I look up to see if there's a fix, find it's a fairly common problem and that there is a fix using the CAOS commands. OK, fair enough. So, I enter the following code that I was told to use.

ject "Lifts.cos" 7

Unfortunately, whenever I try to use the ject command for the elevators, I get this error (written to the best of my recollection).

Invaild command at token 'ject'

I have come across this error before, when trying to inject the bacteria patch, but I stupidly just disregarded it. I don't know what, if anything, I'm doing wrong and I am now also worried that I may have been breaking my world.

Does anyone know if/how this can be fixed?

Don't worry, your world isn't broken - that error just means it didn't understand the command you gave it. [nsmile]

I tried it out in one of my worlds (C3/DS docked) and it worked fine, so I ended up looking it up and it turns out that, at least according to the Creatures Wiki, the ject command doesn't work in standalone C3. If that's the case, the bacteria patch you tried earlier was likely not applied either.

Unfortunately, that means I'm not quite sure how your problem could be fixed - but as a workaround, maybe you could find some teleporter agents to replace the elevators with? Something like the Elevines would be great, although I'm not sure how DS agents handle in C3.

Thank you very much for your help. At least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. I'll have a look and see what I can find. [nsmile]

Doesn't C3 standalone also have an auto recovery cosfile? The DS one uses the ject command I'm pretty sure, but what does the C3 version do then...?

Unfortunately, the "JECT" command doesn't appear to exist in C3 CAOS, being an older version of CAOS compared to DS. However, there are ways to reinject your lifts.

The first method I would go with is the CAOS Tool method:
1) Install CAOS Tool and use the license information on that web-page when prompted.
2) Using CAOS Tool, open "Lifts.cos" from your Creatures 3 Bootstrap folder.
3) Make sure your Creatures 3 world is open.
4) In CAOS Tool, at the end of the row of buttons at the top, click on the "Inject Remove Script" and then the "Inject Install Script And Event Scripts" buttons. They should look like pieces of paper with colored rectangles on it and will describe their purpose if you mouse over them for a while.

That should manually reinject your lifts. If you encounter any major problems with CAOS tool or otherwise just can't seem to fix this, contact me and I'll PRAY you an agent to reinject them.

This post was going to be an update on the lift situation (I've only just gotten around to trying it), but before I could do anything, another problem suddenly arose: the world view/scrolling stopped working properly. Every time I go into a room, the view shoots to the right.

With the mouse, I can still scroll/move up and down. I cannot scroll/move left.

With the arrow keys, I can still move in all directions, but after scrolling/moving left, once I release the button, the view shoots to the right again.

I can click on room icons and creature names to move through rooms and view creatures as normal, but the view then immediately shoots to the right.

Judging from this, it seems as though the game thinks the mouse is being constantly held to the right of the screen. I don't know what might be causing this, if it'll fix itself at some point or what.

So that's the current situation: unable to even try fixing the lifts because the world view has gone crazy. [nsad]

Does the problem still occur in a new world?

I cannot vouch for a new world, but I have two worlds at the moment: my 'main' world and my 'old, but kept for use in trying things out and experimenting' world. The issue occurred in both worlds. I even reloaded an earlier version of the 'experiment' world from a backup, and the issue still occurred. I can easily check if a new world is affected next time.

It isn't an issue I have really seen persist in a world so I don't have any hard solutions for the world view. However, I do know that sometimes inputs get kind of "stuck" in some old games. The way I fix it when that happens is that I just tap the stuck input a bunch of times until it becomes unstuck. So, I would recommend mashing the right arrow key a few times to see if that stops it, especially after scrolling to the left a bit first.

Wow, you're right. I've just tried again now, and the camera problem didn't crop up at all. Phew! I've now been able to try and fix the lifts and, unfortunately, I ran into an error with the CAOS tool. I'll try to quote it to the best of my recollection. It was something along the lines of '[Script type] has encountered an error or exception. Start transaction failed.'

Ironically, despite the error, I have been able to remove the scripts (ie. I can remove the lifts), but I appear to be unable to reinstall them afterwards, with the same error popping up. I've had to quit without saving in order to keep the lifts in the world. I don't know what, if anything, I am doing wrong.

BTW, I thank you all very much for your help so far, not to mention your patience with me. It is very much appreciated. [nsmile]
