BoBCoB Win10 FIX!

According to the Creatures Wiki page for BobCoB the program has only been reported to work up 'til Windows 8.1. After a bit of googling I got it working on Windows 10.

Previously, when attempting to run BoBCoB, I got an error message saying something to the effect that a file called msvbvm50.dll was missing. The program would not even launch.

This is the version of BoBCoB I downloaded.

First I had to manually download msvbvm50.dll (Installing the associated runtime package did not work). I downloaded it from this link and placed it in C:/Windows/SysWOW64 . You may need to place it somewhere else for a 32 bit OS. Then I ran BoBCoB.exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and it ran just fine.

Hope this helps anyone with issues!

Note: I've gotten the program to RUN but haven't made anything with it. There may be some bumps along the way!

Anyway, I can't seem to edit the wiki page for BoBCoB to include these instructions - the only part that appears editable for me is the external links area. I'll probably link to this forum post for now unless someone else can edit the main page.

I've been able to run bobcob on windows 10 for quite a while without manually downloading msvbvm50.dll. (For some reason my win10 just has it already) But the sprite editor throws a "Type Mismatch" error every time its launched unless I uninstall bobcob, erase its registry and then reinstall it, and it'll work until like next reboot or so.

I heard a lot about dll downloader sites being shady though. It might be possible to find the official drivers that install that dll.

EDIT: Its from Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 it seems.

I tried the service pack first and it didn't actually work, which is why I went hunting for the dll manually. Maybe it'll work for some people though! Fingers crossed. Some dll sites are pretty shady, but aside from the ads, nothing seems untoward about this one. I also scanned the file for virus and it came up clean.
