Okay summer has come, and everyone is talking about making a 3rd party Creatures 4 but as far as I know no one has started on it, well this is the 2nd time I wrote this post (I accidently sclsoed it the first time.)
so I am pumped [LoL]. But anywasy back on subgect we could make this over the summer, I know very little but we could get together on a messenger and use a voice chat or text, and use the google writing program to do this with little to no cost.
I know a tad bit of scripting and what not, but if we get together we could get this done,. I have it heard it said we would need a huge fanbase.... I am good at making websites so I could build one once we get this done, and get this sucker on the internet for download.
It would also certinley bring some attention to CC saving us all from exctiction..
Any interested, and I am not talking about just sitting around and talking about it either.... If no one here is interested I only know aobut 2 other pepole that would come abour with no other help.... Soooo, again anyone interested? |

Not meaning to offend you, but you don't really know so much about programming, do you?
It's all very well to start saying how people should do it, but you'd have to be an experienced programmer to really help.
Also, the concept of doing it in the summer seems to indicate that you're not aware how long these things take. Even with an experienced game development team, it can take years to develop a good game. With a bunch of amateurs working in their spare time, it would take even longer.
Not to mention that somebody would have to work out the very complex AI needed to power the creatures, as well as biochemistry and object scripting that not only rivals, but is capable of being considered as better than that of C3/DS, otherwise there would be no point of making it.
Ultimately there is already an open source C2E engine available that could be built upon, but you would have to have the experience programming, aswell as devotion to create anything of 'C4'.
openc2e - The open source creatures engine
Pingus - An open source game that has been in development for 9 years, to give you an idea of time scale

As quick note, if you fancied joining an existing team instead of starting a new project then you could always try Openc2e:

I am checking out that sire Don..
No GameFreak I can't do game programming, and I understand how long it would take.. And I understand that norns have F.A. A.I. [Frickin' Awsome Artificcial Intel.]
It was just an idea. If you don't want in on it, don't join up. |

Well... I don't know much about the law or anything, but that does sound like a violation of copyright...
But! I don't want to flame, so I'll just say that I think that its a good idea, and keep them coming!

Calling it 'Creatures 4' is probably a trademark violation and would probably not make Gameware happy just in case they ever decide to get one made.
But yes. If you're truly serious, we do have a sort-of-project in progress to develop a completely free (as Free Software) version of a Creatures-like game, using the aforementioned openc2e as the engine. I made that site- if you poke around a bit you'll find that openc2e already has some pretty extensive support for most features of the Creatures games (though creatures themselves are very much a work in progress still).
It's not a lost cause- it's just a whole lot of work, and people unfortunately have real lives that interfere.
If you use IRC, feel free to hang around #ccdevnet on irc.freenode.net, and also visit lifandi.ccdevnet.org for more information about the game ideas we're tossing around. And feel free to contribute.

I was looking around but it seems like all the code is from somwhere else.... *Ponders a moment*
I know it doesn't sound right but it's me talking in my own language. So yeah I will have my father explain the parts I don't understand. |

*eek* I wish I knew more. But just curious, what exactly would you call a game pretty much exactly like Creatures... only different? (out of curiousity).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say it's not a good idea for a community created game, I'm just saying I've heard so many people, usually those without the required skills, say how they think the community should make a game.
Anyway, as a slighly-related note, how has openc2e improved over the past 6 months or so?

I'm too busy with real life, and the stuff I have to sprite already. *Balrogs, CFG and Boneyard go running through head*
Yep. I'm busy. I have important exams next year too. |

I don't think it's a good idea. It might keep Gameware from creating more creatures games since only the fans are. It might put them out of buisness

Doubtful. I do not honestly think Gameware makes too much off the Creatures games anymore, though I could be wrong.
Anyway, no one really grasps the sheer amount of work involved when talking about this, and throw ideas around without realizing how much time and energy (for no pay, all volunteer, mind you) that such a project would command to be completed. Short of some seriously dedicated people, which this community seems to lack, things are going nowhere.

EM has some points. I've seen from Gameware that they're slowly dying... they're working on BAMZOOKI right now rather than a C4 (trying something new to ern money), so I doubt that it would be made by Gameware.
Another point made is that making games (even simple ones) takes lots of time, effort, and perserverance. My father manages a recently-made game company and he says that it sometimes takes years to make one game... to make one, we'd need lots of seriously dedicated people, almost certainly money, and people with prior experience with nessesary programs. Right now, doing a Third Party C4 might not be the best idea.
If you have any other ideas, you can post them in the "Keep Creatures Caves Alive" section of the forums . I don't mean to dampen any enthusiasm here, but we need to seriously think.
