so im using windows 11, which as all of you know is not the software that creatures docking station was meant to run on... i decided to try out the science kit to figure out my norns (specifically the brain in a vat tool). i downloaded it on steam, it did take me quite some time to figure out how to open it ;w; but in the end i managed to do so, i loaded my world (which was called 'experiment' and imported my siamese norn anne, i loaded in my zebra norn mary with the intent of using the brain in a vat tool... however when it told me to select a creature the game completely froze up ;w; i closed the tool but i was unable to close the game through the x button, i had to do it manually through task manager... next i decided maybe the brain in a vat tool could wait and i had more to learn, so i decided to try out the biochemistry set. however when i loaded the game (same world) with the intent of exporting anne and importing mary, anne (the game didnt save when i closed it xD) was stated to already be in the 'my creatures' folder (which i was unable to find on file explorer ;w . there was a duplicate anne in the 'import' option, so just to see what was up with it i loaded up the duplicate anne, which appeared in the game with the name of '?'. the world was essentially ruined because of the duplicate anne so i deleted the world ;w; forgive me if this is a dumb question, but how can i safely run the science kit on windows 11?? |

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you had quite the adventure there. Let's see if I can clear a few things up:
The "My Creatures" folder is where exported creatures go. When you export a creature, the game wraps them up in a single, compact file that you can move around like a text document or photo on your PC. That's how adoptions work, too. You export the creature, then copy its file to other people. I believe it should be somewhere in windows' documents folder?
When you forced the game shut with task manager, it couldn't save the changes to your world. It wrapped up Anne into a file, put her into My Creatures, but then "forgot" that she was removed from the world, causing the duplicate.
If you try to import a creature that's already there, you might get a warning that the creature will be "cloned". It will basically change its name and ID to a new one, but keep its everything else like memories as is. That's a safety mechanism so that the game doesn't mistake Anne 1 and Anne 2 for things like ancestry. This is normal business, and some people do it on purpose to have multiple of their favorite. Even if the second one has a new name, she'll still act just the same.
Would you mind telling us what went wrong with science kit and how you fixed it? It could help people down the line who have the same problem.
