Moving Genes

I noticed that in the Fight or Flight organ there are receptors for Norn and Grendel smell but not for Ettin. I wanted to add an Ettin smell receptor too so my Norns can smell Ettins, since I've added a couple other genes that rely on Ettin smell. Whenever I try to make a new receptor gene, no matter what I do, it places it in the wrong organ, and I can't figure out how to move the gene to the right organ. The tutorial I'm using says the 'move' buttons to the side will move the gene, but they don't - they just scroll me up and down the list of genes. I'm probably missing something really obvious but I've been trying to figure this out for ages and it's getting frustrating. x.x

Right now for lack of being able to put it where I want it, I set it to be in Creature - Drives - Boredom locus (since the other Ettin instincts and stimuli I made have to do with being aggressive toward Ettins when bored, and feeling bored and angry when smelling Ettins). Is that even going to work properly? What effect will that have if not?

To move genes, make sure the genes are ordered by number (as in, the default when the genetics kit loads, or the # on the very far left) then use the move up/down buttons.

As for your other question, the default norn/grendel smell receptors control the reaction rates of a pair of reaction genes that convert anger to fear and vice-versa; basically, they'll be more likely to get angry when with their own species and more likely to be afraid when up against the opposite species. Ettins are a pretty neutral bunch on the whole while norns and grendels are set up to be mortal enemies, so that's probably why there's no ettin version by default.

Creatures can smell other creatures just fine without these receptor genes, so whether or not you think this is necessary is really up to you.

Well, since I am giving this particular breed a general dislike of ettins and a tendency to be aggressive toward them, having a specific receptor will probably be useful later on if I decide to do anything similar to the reactions you described with Norns and Grendels, so I'll probably do it anyway even if it's not strictly necessary like I thought it was. Thanks!

Just make a copy of the Norn smell receptor but with Ettin smell (CA smell 14) and move it into place right under the first. Then both receptors will effect the fear -> anger chemical reaction.
