Grendel/Ettin Egg Layers

I keep having this problem where the grendel and ettin mothers in C3DS start randomly spawning other genomes. In the grendel mothers' case, it's another type of grendel I was working on, but just now the ettin mother started spewing a Norn, which is especially weird. (I wondered where all those Gen1s were coming from.)

How can I make it stop spawning those particular genomes short of turning the mothers off entirely? Or is that my only option?

If you look at their cos files, you'll see that they're set to lay any genome that starts with a g or an e. If you edit these cos files so that they'll only lay genomes starting with a 'gren' or an 'ettn', then that will be more specific.

Ahhhh, I see! Thank you so much! That's very helpful. Good to know in case I ever DO want it to start spawning stuff besides basic ettins and grendels.

EDIT: OK, this is probably a stupid question, but which .cos file should I be looking at?

Grendel and Ettin Egg maker.cos, in your C3 world bootstrap folder.

For future reference, it would be good practice to label your genomes with norn., gren. or ettn. at the start of the file names. In case you ever want to release them, it makes sorting easier and stops the problem of egg layers laying the wrong species :)

Geats may be a bit tricky though, I'd make them begin with "the." like "The.Gaia" but that's just me.

Oh! No wonder I couldn't find it, I was looking in my DS folder. That was silly of me. XD I always run DS docked worlds to have the extra space and such so often I forget a lot of it is actually C3.

What I'm doing is generally for personal use only. I'm not even sure it'd be ethical to release the current project being spawned by the Ettin mother, since it uses Draconian sprites - I'd have to ask the Draconians' creator, wouldn't I? With that said, if I ever do make any for release I will be sure to stick to that format.

If you're just making a genetic breed (e.g. you're not actually editing the Draconian's sprite files, just making a genome that uses them), then no one really minds. That's about the same as uploading a draconian norn to the adoptions section in most people's eyes.

Nope, no sprite edits, I'm just using them because they're my favorite breed of Norn, sprite-wise, and the look fits with the genome I'm building - long-lived, predatory and getting more nourishment from meat but willing to eat most anything edible, aggressive killers of ettins, grendels, and sometimes each other if they get angry enough). If that's the case and anyone's interested I might upload the finished product when I'm done experimenting with them.

By the way, if you wanna bring in a little variation, try out Toxic Norns or Banshee Grendels. Their sprites and base colorscheme goes very well with the Draconians.

Where can I get their sprites? I haven't been able to get ahold of either since all the official websites are now dead.

Sadly, they are officially no longer available and sharing is a difficult topic, since CL never released them as free.
