Hello! I am making plans to write a short story (obviously) about a Shee, possibly the Lone Shee. This last of the Shee, a cold-hearted calculating monster, crashes his spaceship into an unnamed planet and discovers nine norn eggs- the last norn eggs in existence. This Shee decides to hatch all the eggs at once, not out of love or compassion, but out of boredom and a will to control. However, the nine norns cause the Shee to gradually remember how to feel pain, sorrow, and most importantly, love. This story works on my interpretation of the Shee that contradicts almost every official clue and description. I have always imagined the Shee as androgynous, remote and dispassionate creatures who lack a sense of empathy. By immortalising their cells and giving themselves almost unlimited longevity, the Shee have lost their 'humanity'. Obviously it should be something like 'sheanity' but you know what I mean. My plan contains a few plot holes and inconsistencies- for example, wild animals still existing after an entire civilisation being wiped out. What's more, it just does not make the slightest bit of sense with the actual Lone Shee history stories because it tells it's own version, not only of the background of the lone Shee, but of the history of all of Albia. Mature themes such as death and violence will almost certainly play prominent roles in this story. Probably towards norns, possibly towards young ones. However, seeing as the entire thing will be written in diary format, all violence will be implied and as such there will never actually be anything like "the cruel claws did suchandsuch to the norn's whatsitsface". I'll do my best to make all references to violence as ambiguous and subtle as possible. If this sort of thing is permitted and the story idea sounds good, then please say so and I'll write it. If it is not, then I'll write it anyway but I will not post it. Maybe when it's done, if I feel proud of it, I'll ask someone via PM if they would like to read it privately. So just post your ideas and opinions and I'll take them into account while I write it. Even if no one likes the idea I'm still going to write it for myself! |

YAY!  With the 'inconsistency' - You could say 'well, when the dinosaurs died, the smaller, more energy-efficient mammals survived - perhaps the same thing happened with the wild animals here'. ? I don't care if it doesn't mesh with previous ideas of the Shee - I can't wait to read it. My TCR Norns |

Thank you for the kind words! I'm feeling more encouraged. I just want the go ahead from a moderator, perhaps something along the lines of "Yup, you can write this story here as long as you keep the violence to a minimum." Thanks for your idea, too. I definitely need wild animals in my story, but I also want a mass extinction. I never considered the case of dinosaurs, but now I think I'll do a bit of research into how some survived while most did not. Even if it turns out that stories of such a macabre nature are not permitted, I'll still very much appreciate input of ideas. Maybe I'll even be so inspired I'll draw a picture of my way of imagining the Shee and submit it into the gallery. |

Well, you've already said "all violence will be implied and as such there will never actually be anything like "the cruel claws did suchandsuch to the norn's whatsitsface". I'll do my best to make all references to violence as ambiguous and subtle as possible." - so that should be ok. You might also want to post up a warning before the story if you think it might go past the forum's PG-13 rating. My TCR Norns |

Now I'll definitely get writing. I hope it won't be disappointing. :3 Actually, maybe I'll procrastinate a little further by completing my picture of the way I see the Shee so I can then upload it. |

Seconding (thirding? xthing?) borrowing the "this is what happened when the dinosaurs were wiped out" theory to fill that particular plothole. If you're really concerned about breaking canon, you can claim this is an alternate universe where the Shee are... a bit different. I always saw the different Arks and Capillatas that we all have as taking place in parallel universes anyway (at least "plot-wise" .On top of that, I could have sworn that Gameware essentially disassociated the LS series from the game's official storyline, so if you contradicted those stories you wouldn't technically be breaking canon anyway. You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there. -- Jim Adkins |
