Strangeo Forum Computer Problem    Lollipop Lord C-Rex        5/31/2010 When I started up my Acer Aspire Laptop this morning, I was greeted by a Blue Screen Of Death. I tried countless things, such as system restore, last known good configuration etc. but nothing seemed to work. I now knew my only decision would be to format my hard drive. To use system restore, I had to user Acer Erecovery (a lousy piece of software) in order to format the drive. Whilst the drive was being formatted, I went upstairs and waited for about an hour. When I came back down, the progress bar was still at 0%, an so I decided to shut off the laptop and (hopefully) try the tool again. Unfortunately when I booted the computer up, I got a message saying "Windows Failed to Start. Please insert the Windows 7 disc." HANG ON, WHAT DISC? The people who made this laptop are so darn stupid they didn't even bother to provide a windows 7 recovery disc, and therefore I am stuck in this position with only a crummy ASUS Laptop to use. I'm sorry for rambling on, but I'm so angry and frustrated. I loved that laptop and I don't want to lose it.   Data     5/31/2010 IIRC modern laptops have a hidden partition with the recovery "CD" image on there. Rather stupid in my opinion as it's the drives that go and therefore buy-buy recovery software! So you have to contact the manufacturer and pay for actual CD/DVD versions to be shipped out. Cost cutting, I believe they call it. Anyway, if you can figure out how to access that partition and BOOT from it you should be able to do a complete reset to factory from it. But all depends if it's Windows or the drive that's faulty Back again! Beware!   Tea Queen Laura     5/31/2010 I know that on my Sony Vaio VGN-NR32L laptop I have to press F11 on the startup screen to access the recovery partition that Data's talking about. If you can, maybe your laptop has something similiar? I couldn't work out how to access it from mine at first, but a Google search with my laptop's model brought up the answers.
