What's the worst illness you've ever caught or suffered from? Please post below, but keep in mind that some illnesses are quite personal and shouldn't be posted in the topic.

The worst illness I've ever had (so far) was Appendicitis whilst on holiday in Wales around Summer 2006. I had constant pain in the lower right side of my belly, and I also felt really sick, and didn't feel like eating anything at all.

When I woke next morning my dad took me to the hospital (it wasn't actually very far) and they had me examined, and it turns out I DID have Appendicitis. Afterwards, I was taken to the operating theatre, where it was removed. As soon as I woke up from the Anaethesia, I was in constant pain, but eventually I got better and got to miss two weeks from school (unfortunately it was my first two weeks at Highschool, which meant I couldn't find my way around lol)

Ouch, C-Rex! That sounds horrific. I'm glad you got through it okay. :)

The worst illness I've had recently is Mumps, which I caught in February 2009, when there was an outbreak of it at the university. Nearly everyone who was born in 1988 got it, because they hadn't had the second MMR vaccine, like everybody else. It meant we all had to be sent home and put in quarantine for a week. Having a killer sore throat and swollen "hamster cheeks" wasn't fun, but the week off work was great! ;)

An ordinary flu.
I hardly ever get ill, but when I get ill then really bad. Through a flu I already was a few times near death because my temperature was over 40°C. The proteins in your body start to get hard like a boiled egg when the temperature stays that high for too long. You can imagine how bad that is for the health. :P

Worst thing I've ever had was a case of food poisoning from contaminated deli meat. It took six months before I could eat a full meal in one sitting, and after a year I've only just gotten to the point where looking at the toilet doesn't automatically make me feel nauseous. But I'm still never going to eat lunch meat ever again. Yuck!

But as far as actual contagious illnesses go, I've gotten off pretty easy. I've never even had the stereotypical conditions like chickenpox.

Christine: You broke a rib coughing? :o Geez...

And Ghosthande, I emphasise. I've had food poisoning before too, after my parents and I went round to the neighbours for dinner. They'd been away in Italy for six months previously, and so their house was really dirty. It was either that, or some iffy tuna and bean salad they served, which made us all so sick. I'm an emetophobic too, so it was the worse few days of my life to date!

I was going to come in here and say that the worst I've ever had was a flu bug that resulted in a 104*F fever, but y'all reminded me of when I got food poisoning a few years back. I was working a summer job at... er, an unidentified major retailer at the time. Said retail store also ran a cafe, so I ordered a chicken caesar salad for dinner during my break and went home a few hours later. I'll spare you the vivid details, but I had to call in sick the next morning because I was beyond ill and spent the proceeding three days curled up on my couch because I was too weak to climb into my loft bed. In retrospect I probably should have gone to a hospital because I'm pretty sure I was ridiculously dehydrated at several points, but I didn't because I'm stupid like that.

ANYWAY, I finally get back into work (thankfully two of those days had been scheduled days off anyway) and the day after I return I'm called into the office where the boss accuses me of faking sick in order to avoid whatever menial task I'd been assigned to the day I called in ill. Of course, having not gone to a doctor to get a note or prepared myself with an evidence bag of vomit I didn't have any proof that I had actually been sick, so I'm not sure the boss ever believed me when I firmly insisted that I'd been sick as a dog the entire time. Though nothing ever developed after the accusation.

Not that it had a chance to. I gave them my two weeks notice shortly thereafter.

You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I nearly died of the flu when I was in kindergarten or first grade. I was on the bathroom floor vomiting into the toilet every few hours, can't remember my fever. I was out sick for the entire month of January.

The second worst was when I got the flu and then pulled my abdominal muscles vomiting, on top of unexplained abdominal pain from my acne medication. I simply could not move for around three days.

I've never broken a bone or had surgery above extraction of a malformed tooth, so I shouldn't really be complaining.
