Now, scoota, with gardening, you should try to adapt to your enviroment.

Now, with me, I live in an area where you can grow most anything.
My mom has a hibiscus bush that we've had grown successfully since I was in 5th grade or so (It's a tropical plant*).
I'm currently growing a christmas tree.

You can grow any plant in any enviroment**.

*Tropical meaning it's 90F year round. In my area, the temp can go from around 30F to 120F, it also need a lot of water. We barely water it, the temperature can fluctuate greatly in a year, and it survives.
**Side effects may occur. Example, my christmas tree, is looking more bonsai since it's a bit small, as it's only been growing for a short while. It hasn't grown any needles yet, I don't think that happens for a while. (I think christmas trees go through a dramatic change, like butterflies).
You can grow anything anywhere, but there are consequences. It may mutate. It may become carnivorous (or it's off spring can become carnivorous). It may drastically change.

Now, in my area, we haven't had a serious drought in a few years. We have intense rain all winter, and all summer. It rains a good deal during spring too.
Most rain occurs winter (Nov. through Mar.).
Occasional rain during spring. It's more like a drizzle or light rain. (Apr. through the 1st half of may XD)
Summer, is the only time it can rival the amount it rains in the winter. It's monsoon season at this time, intense thunder and rain. The rain is mainly at 9PM to 4-5 AM, usually, we can get an extremely heavy rain fall, in an hour. (Summer is 2nd half of May through 1st half of Aug.)
Autumn. Well, same with summer, yet 99% of rain is late night. I'm meaning, LATE. (It rains most for the rest of Aug, then it stops at sept. and oct.)

You'd think this means we have an extremely high deal of rain, but I may be exaggerating it a bit/forgetting to mention how many inches of rain we get.

Monsoon season is summer. Summer is the most dangerous season. Thunder comes with most all rain at night. It rains so much, that it floods a lot. Also, we have adapted with these little dips in roads called 'wash outs', the road dips down to go with the flow of water.
If it rains, you cannot cross that area. (The wash out becomes a river).

We actually have a law called something like 'the idiot law', in which:
1. If you attempt to drive through a wash out, you will be fined.
a. Even if you succeed or fail, you still get fined.
2. If ANYONE, has to rescue you, you are fined more I think.

It's called such, because you have to be an idiot to think your car can cross 6-10 foot deep dip, that is around the same width to more.
Surface water flows 1/3rd the speed of the water an inch below it. Meaning slow top flowing water, and the depth is pretty great, it means you'll be swept away in a second at the bottom.

Funny thing is, our entire state is pretty much a desert (excluding cities).
