Strangeo Forum Pokémon HG & SS   1 | 2 Tea Queen Laura        4/5/2010 Who else is currently playing the new Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver games for the DS? I'm really surprised at myself actually! I've just bought the Heart Gold version impulsively. I've not played the Pokémon games since the Blue, Red and Yellow versions, on the classic Gameboy Color, but I'm finding that I'm really getting into it again and enjoying Heart Gold... at 22... lol. As far as my progress goes, I'm not very far at all. My character only has a lv. 9 Cyndaquil to her name, and I've just been to Mr. Pokémon's house to collect the Mystery Egg.   AquaShee   4/5/2010 I got both games at ones as soon as they arrived in the store here in Belgium. There was this silly bug in the localized version that delayed it by a week. I gave SoulSilver to my girlfriend, since she had the Silver version when she was little, and I had the Gold version. She had to borrow my DS because she forgot hers and now all I have is a Mareep on my Pokéwalker... At least I'll have lots of Watts when I get my DS back. I really, really love the game. It's in some ways identical to the old Gold and Silver, which brings so many great memories. But they also improved a lot of things. My favourite new feature is the pokémon walking behind you. The pokémon responds to the locations and what you're doing and it just makes it come alive more. The Pokéwalker is also neat, getting you pokémon you couldn't have caught so early in the game otherwise. I really don't like the new pokédex layout though... Blech. Honestly, I got it since it can out in the US, but, sadly, I still haven't beaten the E4, I'm having trouble getting my entire team to a high enough level! They're all 45 or higher, yet the E4 practically demands healing after each battle, yet I need to keep making money. I'm really close, and I was close when my entire team was around levels 41 or so. My team consists of: Typhlosion Ampharos Red Gyarados Lugia Corsola and Fearow (I hate pidgey, so I ignored it, I always ignore pidgey, as it is so annoying, and so are it's evolutions.) I just need to find a way to survive Lance, as his team has attacks that can take down many of my pokemon. I have soul silver, but a friend of mine has both. I'm trying to do even leveled teams, but along with challenges of even leveling, I haven't been playing much. My lil sis and my friend both have beaten red by now, he was doing even leveling, and my sis was only training her starter. A part of me feels sad because usually I do much better and faster than all else. Though, I've been exploring and using time doing stuff that doesn't involve training XD. Also, johto has always been a bit, harder for me XD. EDIT: HAH! I DEFEATED LANCE! My red Gyarados saved me, my Typhlosion ko'd Charizard with it's roll out (which usually results in my pokemon fainting!)! My entire team is lv 46 or higher, most around 48! Fearow is the only one at 46, but it just needs a little more to level up! I love the ceremony. I hate lance, I got to him on my first try, but it was just hard to beat him. Dang aerodactyle. I love the end credits! So fun to watch! EDIT2: I loved the whole sinnoh traveling home one a bit more, but the ending was still good! beep   Wiimeiser   4/6/2010 Does Lugia know any ice-type attacks? Well, I'm glad I've found other players on here - I'm finding Heart Gold so very addictive! I am such a rookie though, you'll all have to bear with me. I've been out of the loop for years, (having not played any Pokémon games since Yellow) so it all feels really new to me again. You Poké experts and veterans might envy me for having this fresh experience, but it means I can really struggle knowing which Pokémon are more beneficial to train up than others. i.e. Which 6 Pokémon to have in my party and which Pokémon to put in deposit. I think this is why my team is currently what it is, feel free to laugh at me: Lv. 12 Cyndaquil Lv. 5 Caterpie Lv. 5 Geodude Lv. 5 Pidgey Lv. 5 Spearow Lv. 4 Hoothoot And a lv. 2 Spinarak, a lv. 3 Sentret and a lv. 4 Rattata in storage. ... I would like to point out though, I've mostly been a-catchin' and a-trainin', rather than carrying on with the story. I'm still yet to fight Youngster Mikey and Bug Catcher Don on Route 30. Also, I haven't used the Pokéwalker yet - am I missing out?   AquaShee   4/6/2010 Kinda, but you don't need the pokéwalker to enjoy the game. The pokewalker allows you to take along a pokemon, which will gain exp and happiness as you walk. It'll only gainone lvl max, but it won't learn or evolve for that level. The safest moment to take a pokemon along is when it has just learned a move, then you're fairly certain not to have it level past another move. You can also earn items and pokemon using the pokewalker, which is a very neat feature. Certain pokemon can only be gotten via the walker, and can be gotten very early in the game. I love Pokémon but it's a guilty pleasure and I'd never be bold enough to wear a Pokéwalker in public, not at my age! What would the neighbours say? Maybe when I'm just loafing around the house, lol.   AquaShee   4/6/2010 I just put it in my pocket, wrapped in some plastic so it doesn't get scratched. My girlfriend attaches hers to her underwear, which is kinda funny but it works. It won't register as much steps in a bag, but it'll still work. I never had gold and silver, so i had to start a new game because i did'nt know how to train good, here is my team. I am on indigo plateau. Pidgeot lv. 45 I love pidgeot! And a pocket is a good idea AS, why didn't I think of that?   LoverIan   4/6/2010 Apricorns can also be used to make juice for pokeathlons, which are the johto equivalent to contests! Laura, it might be a good idea to have a balanced team, and to make sure you have only one main bird type in your main team XD.... The pokewalker is the quickest way to train low leveled pokemon. I take around anywhere from 4k-16k steps a day, and that's enough to level up pokemon around levels 51 at least once. You can only level up a pokemon once per walk on the poke walker, so that's the down side. You'd have to keep sending it back and forth to level it up well. Oh, and the steps can be double than you actually take, so, count 4 steps, it shows 8 XD You have to wear it, and you can't shake it. By shaking, 30 shakes = 1 step, and it'll only count that one step by shaking, so it won't work. Can't put it on your pet, so no using pets. It's most affective when attached to leg, as it monitors motion, and vibrations, in sync, so, the two and fro motion of legs + the vibrations from the steps=it working correctly! If asked, I say it's a step counter/pedometer, and if they accuse me of playing pokemon, I claim coincidence. They can tell it's pokemon by the look, which, if they say I'm wrong, I'll say, "Do you watch the show or something?" It's not embarrasing that I play, it's more, they'll make fun of me more if they know. It won't matter, cause I've been seen carrying a figure as a good luck charm. I cannot do wifi or wireless, as my int. connection isn't nintendo compatible, even though it's from the same company as our last one, which worked with nintendo XD My team is now lv 51 or higher, I have beaten Lt. Surge, and Janine. I'm going to keep working. I've mainly been adventuring. So no friend code and online battling and trading for me, and I so wanted to show off my awesome Pidgey! I could change the settings from WAP to WEP, like the DS wants, but my Dad would rather I didn't. Nevermind though, because there's so much more to do in this game, right? I still haven't got that far, because I've been doing some more training and catching, but I've been to Violet City, defeated Faulkner, and got my Zephr badge. Wouldn't mind some opinions on my current team, please? Geodude lv. 12 Abilities: Tackle, Rock Throw, Mud Sport, Rock Polish Quilava lv. 14 (Yay, Cyndaquil evolved!) I couldn't be stuffed following the storyline, I just liked battling until I was too strong for all the wild pokemon. I've not played a pokemon game properly since Red and Blue, because I get too confused with all the berries and day and night and all the bells and whistles. I also have an Ampharos, that Shiny Gyarados that was on the lake, a Togetic, and a Skiploom. I want to catch a Skarmory at some point. It's really fun. Believe me, until you can grow berries and give Kurt apricorns to make new Pokeballs on a regular basis (I.E. until Cianwood) you'll need to save money. But Fly and Pluck work really well, if you can find them. Also I strongly reccomend catching a Chinchou with the Volt Absorb ability. You can find them by fishing with the Good Rod in New Bark Town. Make sure it has Volt Absorb (try hitting it with an electric-type attack) A Pokemon that can learn Leech Seed will help too. You can catch a Meowth on route 38 in SoulSilver, but they don't seem to appear anywhere in HeartGold. However, they're the only Pokemon that learn Pay Day (on level 17) and coupled with level 100 and the Amulet Coin (which you'll get in Goldenrod during a revisit) they can make a lot of money. I got a Totodile, Pidgey and a Pikachu from the yellow forest, pokewalker course.   AquaShee   4/12/2010 Laura: If you're willing to pay up, you can get a USB Wi-Fi stick for your DS. It's a USB thingy you plug into any computer that has internet and it'll allow all your Nintendo devices to access the internet through it without needing any special router settings or anything. I used to have one and it worked great, but I gave it away once we got wireless. I didn't get to play a lot, but I dumped my Totodile in a box because I don't like it. Caught a Ditto and had it breed with Totodile first so I could put a lvl1 Totodile on the GTS to trade for something better. Other than that I'm happy with my Flaaffy, still looking for original replacements for my other pkmn. A remoraid/octillery would be nice. Still wondering if I should get a fire type and if so, which one? Thanks are in order to my: False Swipin' Ninjask lv 36 Shadow Tag Wobuffet lv 20 Block Snorlax lv 50 Thundershock Ampharos lv 53 Dark Pulse & Crunch Pupitar lv 44 Thanks to them, I got entei & raikou down to 1 hp each, and paralyzed. Caught Raikou. Took a while XD Now, I have 11 badges, my team is: Lv 54 Typhlosion Lv 54 Lugia Lv 54 Corsola Lv 54 Fearow Lv 54 Red Gyarados Lv 54 Ampharos I think I'll replace Lugia eventually with my Pupitar after it evolves into Tyranitar (Might leave it with day care couple) I'm obsessed with side quests, raising pokemon, filling the pokedex, so don't expect 16 badges so soon XD I chose to defeat Misty, she's one of the lower leveled ones. I hate Sabrina, her Espeon has psychic, and it's tough. Good sp attack & defense! I should catch suicine or maybe entei. Entei is down to 1 hp and is catchable now..... I love the battle fronteir now! I've gotten dex data for kingdra, politoed, and Slowking (thanks to trading with lil sis~) I'm trying to make progress every day! The Nintendo DS/DS Lite software was made in the times that WPA was in development, the DSi system software supports WPA but only DSi apps that you download from the online Nintendo store can use it. To Lembam: So, my connection uses a WEP, and even though it asks me for the WEP, and I put in the right one, it's really asking me for the WPA? I use a ds lite, and it used to be able to work, but that was before we used pass words on our connection I guess. It was an accident, really. Took my lvl 45 Venusaur, lvl 45 Ampharos and lvl 39 Lapras to the Elite 4 just to train Lapras a bit (she's the newest addition to the team) and this combination went so well I soon found myself in the Hall of Fame completely unexpectedly. So now I'm thinking of just sticking with these three pokémon. The trouble is though, I need a good HM slave or two to keep me mobile. Most HMs except Surf, Waterfall and Fly are near useless. I've yet to encounter a trainer iwith a pokemon knowing Cut... Find a wild ditto, have it transform in another HM slave and then switch in a Smeargle? Terdish oxen saur yessi atai Kongo Dolpik!   LoverIan   5/6/2010 Smeargle can also learn most any move, except for 1-hit KO moves, because sketch requires a move to hit, and smeargle doesn't have the ability preventing 1-hit KO moves from K-Oing it. Oh, I thought of this, you could always have a battle on wi-fi, with a trainer who has and HM slave, and smeargle can use sketch. I have 15 badges, not 16 yet. I feel like beating the elite four more just to get money, so I don't have trouble next time around. I haven't been playing much, I'm mostly using the poke walker. I unlocked valcano path, and I'm training my swablu. beep   Arnout   5/6/2010 I,ve just trained my pokemon a lot! Tuesday i battled Blaine maybe 30 times to get my Omastar at level 100, and yesterday i battled Jasmine a lot, and now my Rampardos is at level 100 too. I'm still training my Armaldo, he is level 49.   Wiimeiser   5/8/2010 The only moves Smeargle can't sketch are Sketch, Struggle and Chatter.
