| Phantasm's egg was laid completely normally, and to top it off both her parents were still alive when she hatched. She would really have liked to believe that she was a completely ordinary grendelchi.
Unfortunately for her, she was anything but. Whenever she was around, an odd, haunting melody played in the minds of any other Creatchi nearby. It was, in fact, the very same song that accompanied her ancestor Saya. Why it came back despite Phantasm's normal birth circumstance was a mystery. Perhaps she inherited some of her mother's mysticism.
Unlike Saya initially, Phantasm was able to hear this song. Considering that for her it played nearly all the time, she spent a lot of her time trying to figure out how to make it stop and keep it that way. She never had much success in that endeavor; in fact, her attempts usually just made the song play louder.
She at least tried to be nice to other Creatchis, although she has a bit of a grumpy streak (possibly due to sleep deprivation) and she didn't take too kindly to anyone who asks about the music.
Although the song never stopped following her around, she got her wish of a normal life. It was a long and fruitful one; she settled down with a wonderful black grendelchi named Nacht and they had a son and a daughter together. Their daughter Icicle went on to breed herself, and Phantasm was happy to hear the news that she had a living grandson by the name of Fungus in the last hours of her life.
Her death was a peaceful one, and now she has joined her ancestors in Silicon Heaven. Maybe there she'll learn the true identity of the song. |

Phantasm gives the newcomer a rather annoyed glare. It's bad enough that she was almost run over, but then the newcomer had the nerve to comment on the song.
"Yes, I hear it," she replies, trying to sound as polite as possible despite her annoyance, "But if you wish to not annoy me further, you'll stop asking about it." She pauses for a moment or two. "Though, if it was created by a bunch of norns, then that might be a step towards getting it to stop playing."
The song suddenly changes to such a tone that it sounds like it's laughing. It apparently thinks that the idea of it being the creation of norns is a rather ridiculous one, and given its origins it's almost certainly not the case anyway. Not that Phantasm would know that.

While on her way back home, Dastia hears a beautiful song and not paying attention, almost walks right over poor Phantam. "Oh I'm sorry dear, you came out of nowhere! Do you hear that beautiful melody too? Finest Song of Past Spirits I've ever heard! Even better than when that tribe of Nornchis who created the song played it!"

Phantasm's first days of life had been more or less survivable. She'd been finding enough food and toys to satisfy her needs, and she's made friends with many other grendelchis.
She would enjoy her life more if it weren't for this music. It's not an unpleasant thing to listen to, she supposes, but it plays all the time. It refuses to stop, even if she needs to sleep. No matter how hard she tried, she can't get it to go away.
Where does it come from, and what does it want from her? Phantasm decides that she might as well humor it. It's time to set off and see if she can find some answers.

Knowing he doesn't have much time left, Alex visits his only grandchild (not counting the egg) and leaves her a bountiful supply of food.
