Binchotan was a happy grendelchi, who appeared out of the egg complete with some memories of... a time before. He remembered a certain friend before she arrived, and was very surprised to find that she didn't remember him here. He never did get to the bottom of this, and it remained a puzzle to him for the rest of his life, though the strong sense that he and she were meant to be together faded over time.

Despite being a handsome fellow, he missed his chance at a family; Izanimi showed an interest in him at a time when he still didn't understand why he couldn't marry an ettinchi; and later, after he'd fixed his attentions on Rio, he was very shocked when she died young. No other opportunity offered, and he felt a little that he'd let down his ancestors. At the end of his life, his one hope was that his beloved little brother Kirby would carry on the family line.

Binchotan is excited to see old friends again...!

No, not stalker-ish at all - but I pointed out to him a while ago he might like a girl grendelchi as a special friend, and he seemed to think she hadn't been born yet? (Surprised me, I can tell you.) Wouldn't rule it out though - kids get weird ideas in their heads, and Izanami's very pretty...

Nutter takes Binchotan on a tour of the Caves, introducing him to the other creatchis, and explains he might like to be special friends with another grendelchi one day. He looks confused for a moment, and says, "She isn't here yet."
