| At first glance, Vibria looked like a grendelchi with odd scales that looked vaguely like a banshee grendel's. However, she was actually a dragon - a desert dragon, to be specific.
She once believed herself to be an ordinary grendelchi, but as time went on the evidence to contrary kept piling up to the point where she could no longer believe herself when she said that. She eventually came to the conclusion that she was a dragon, but she never learned what exactly that was. The one creatchi who could tell her that was long dead by the time she actually became bold enough to face her.
Regardless of species, she was relatively friendly. In her youth, she had a strong habit of hoarding various objects, particularly gems, for reasons she learned were tied to her real species. She didn't take well to being bullied or otherwise bossed around, and never liked to see it happen to others either.
Her life was a long and definitely not dull one. In her first couple days, she met her future husband Sentinel and was forcibly removed from her birthing home by an older dragonchi, Dracona, who believed she was intruding on her territory. Although she definitely raised a stink while it was going on, Vibria got over it relatively quickly and found herself a new home, which she shared with Sentinel.
The two went on a few adventures together to find such things as gadgets and gemstones. When Vibria finally learned that she was no grendelchi, she decided that it was time for things to come full circle and went back to Draconoa's territory to challenge her. Unfortunately, Dracona had died long before Vibria became old enough to face her. The journey wasn't completely in vain, however, as Vibria took a spellbook from the deceased blue one's hoard.
The tail end of her life was a peaceful one; she spent time with her husband, cared for her two unhatched eggs, and studied Dracona's spellbook whenever she had a free moment. In the end, she left the book behind for her children. She died peacefully, and she was given a gravestone by her husband Sentinel.
Such was the life of the dragon who thought she was a grendel. May she rest in peace. |

Sentinel doesn't really know what to say. Vibra is a dragonchi, but she doesn't seem to be as mean as the blue one. He just stares at her blankly for a few seconds before deciding if she was a mean Dragonchi, she would have already killed him.
"No, not really. You are still you at the end of the day... Even if you are a Dragonchi, you aren't as mean as the blue one was. Speaking of which, your going to go confront her aren't you? If you are then I'm behind you all of the way." He carefully gets off the crystal and starts heading out of the cave.

Vibria takes a while to recover from the shock of her own voice, but when she finally does her response to Sentinel is a blank look.
"I...I thought I was a grendelchi. But now...." She frowns heavily. "...I don't even know any more." She looks at the large crystal egg, before walking up to it and looking at reflection. Distorted and barely visible though it is, the face that looks back at her looks enough like a grendelchi.
She stands there a while, trying desperately to come up with a better answer. A memory comes back to her; the memory of when the blue one first chased her away. That one didn't call her a grendelchi. What was the word...?
"You, golden dragonchi, what are you doing in MY territory?!"
"You, golden dragonchi, ...
"...dragonchi..."
That's it. That has to be it. She is no grendelchi. She is a dragonchi. Her face lights up for a moment...only to darken again when she realizes that the only thing she knew about dragonchis was the fact she's apparently one.
"...Actually, I think I'm a dragonchi," she says, "But that's not informative enough. Even I don't know exactly what that is." She is about to frown again, when suddenly, the thought hits her. She stares down at her hands, taking in the fact that she is now a strong adult and a far cry from the hatchling she once was. "But I do know how I'm going to find that out. It's time to go back to my old hoard and face the blue one. Maybe she will tell me what I want to know."
She glances around the cave, briefly considering taking some gems, but shrugs it off. They aren't going anywhere, and those wolves knew better than to mess with her. She'd come back for them later.
She is about to walk off, before she frowns again and looks up at Sentinel. "This...this doesn't bother you, does it...?"

All of the wolves flee for their lives, though the leader does growl at Vibra one last time before running away, Sentinel had climbed onto one of large quartz crystals, and just looks at Vibra. She, isn't a Grendelchi he decides. He just tilts his head at her and asks:
"What -are- you?"

Upon reaching the end of the cave, a large smile crosses Vibria's face. Yes, this would do quite nicely for her purposes. Well, the smaller ones would do, anyway. The glowing gemstone egg was a little too big to be stuck onto her underside.
She is about to start gathering as many as the smaller gems as she can when the wolves show up. At first she's startled, but as she stares them down her hands curl up into fists. She already didn't appreciate that blue one removing her from her own home; she wasn't about to be chased away from this by a bunch of animals.
She gives them a firm glare that showed no fear, before she takes a deep breath and unleashes a mighty roar. The sound that comes out of her mouth sounds absolutely nothing like a grendelchi, but more like a large and fearsome creature, and one that was distinctly reptilian.
Whether or not it scares the wolves off remains to be seen, but as it turns out Vibria practically scared herself. Was that her voice?

As it turns out, Sentinel does like caves. Ones where he can see his claws in front of his face anyway. The faint glow coming from the back of the cave gets brighter as they make their way to the back of the cave. After a small amount of time, they've made it.
The cave is a decent size, with large quartz crystals growing from every direction possible. Many different types gems seem to have grow their naturally, and there are smaller gemstones that have fallen out of the cave walls with time. What isn't natural, however, is the sizable gemstone egg in the center. The only thing glowing in the cave is the egg, and Sentinel decides its a good idea to check it out. He pokes at it and finds that it is just a large gemstone.
"I think the egg is actually-" Sentinel is interrupted by the growling of some wolves, who call the cave home. Only one is actually growing, the other members of the pack look like they are ready to flee, if given the chance. Sentinel growls at them, and a few wolves slink away in fear, The rest start growling back at him however.
(Hope you get to feeling better. Also sorry it's so long?)

Vibria gives Sentinel an odd look. Being the active digger he was, she would have expected him to be a little less scared of caves.
She doesn't dwell on it for long, however, and is content enough to lead the way into the cave. At least they don't have to go far to find what they were looking for, assuming Sentinel is correct.
All the while, she keeps a wary eye out for potential threats, such as those fanged critters Sentinel mentioned, or maybe even another creatchi like that nasty blue one. She's definitely old enough now to take them on, but ambushes would still leave them at a distinct disadvantage.
(Sorry about the lack of commenting; I haven't been doing so well lately. ._.)

It took a few more days then Sentinel thought it would to find the crystal cave, and Sentinel blames it on his fuzzy baby memory. They did eventually find it though. There is a slight glow coming from deep within the cave, and the "scent" of gems is rich near the mouth of the cave. Sentinel hangs back though, still unsure of caves in general, and waits for Vibra to go on ahead of him.
"I'm pretty sure this is the right cave... More sure then I was the last five times anyway."
| |
|
"Huh, never though of it that way..." Sentinel says. He's slightly amazed she pointed in the right direction, but doesn't say anything about that. He thinks back to when he wandered the dunes as a baby, which felt like forever ago to him, and tries to remember where a good gem cave would be. He comes up with one idea but...
"I do remember one cave in particular had huge versions of those clear, pointed crystals but it also had a pack of some large fanged creatures in it. Of course I was a baby then so they might not be so big anymore. I also remember some weird green gems there too. It's actually not to far from here, if I remember it correctly." He picks up one of the gadgets and pokes at the buttons on it like an impatient child.
"What are we going to do about the gadgets? Some of them still work, but there are way to many to take back... I'd say we leave them here and take back some of the more interesting ones when we come back from the gem cave. But what do you think?" He finally gets it to light up once, but when he realizes that's all it does, he growls at it and puts it back in the pile.

Vibria watches Sentinel dig around with a look that's somewhere between confusion and hope. After his search turned up nothing, she says, "Well, I wasn't necessarily talking about finding them here. I meant making them a priority when we go searching again."
She shakes her head in response to his question. "Your guess is as good as mine, though...." She pauses, tapping her chin in thought. "Well, gems are just really pretty rocks. Where does one find a lot of rocks...." Another few moments, and she turns back to Sentinel. "Maybe they come from caves? If we find another cave, maybe we can find more gems. Not the one back at the oasis, though." She looks in that direction, or at least what she thinks is that direction. "There might be gems in there, but I know better than to disturb them if they are."

(Take your time, and I only sent the request out of habit. I'd prefer you wait a bit too. Sentinel is still to young for kids. <3)
