Despite being a handsome fellow, he missed his chance at a family; Izanimi showed an interest in him at a time when he still didn't understand why he couldn't marry an ettinchi; and later, after he'd fixed his attentions on Rio, he was very shocked when she died young. No other opportunity offered, and he felt a little that he'd let down his ancestors. At the end of his life, his one hope was that his beloved little brother Kirby would carry on the family line. Binchotan wanders sadly back from the meadow. When he'd been newly hatched, he'd had such a clear memory of a close friend who he'd left behind, and was waiting for. Then he'd met Octavia, and was sure she was the creatchi he remembered. As he got older, and spoke to her more often, this feeling faded. Octavia's a nice creatchi, but obviously has no memory of anything other than this life - and she has her own plans for her yellow ettinchi dynasty. What about his own dynasty? Binchotan has the letter - now resembling a small book - started by Bluegrass the nornchi, and passed on via Molly, Tenzin and Jasper, each of whom had added their own thoughts and advice. Having read it through many times, Binchotan can't really see anything in there that applies. It doesn't help that there aren't many romantic options among the grendelchi. Rio is often ill, Abby is very pretty but being courted by Anders, and that leaves the rather scary Izanami who, even if she wasn't a lot older, is aggressive and seems to hate non-grendelchis. And Binchotan rather likes ettinchis, whether they remember him or not. He gets back to the caves, and decided to try and meditate on the problem. He's never tried this before, but Great-Grandma Molly has left detailed instructions how. | |||||||||||||||

Binchotan is confused. He's sure he remembers Octavia before they both arrived in the caves, but she seems to be unaware of any time before. Are these false memories? Or did he keep hold of them by some unusual means...? | |||||||||||||||

Nutter is somewhat at a loss for words. "Your special friend will be the same as you, though." Binchotan thinks for a moment. "But no-one else is black and red!" "No," says Nutter, "a grendelchi, the same as you. Octavia is an ettinchi." Binchotan still can't see why this should matter, and stomps off, muttering. | |||||||||||||||
