Installing DS: File List Splash.txtpartial Games Malkin | 1/20/2014 | | How to deal with the "Trouble bzip2 reading from file_list_splash.txtpartial" error when installing Docking Station, and 16 bit colours.
If you get an error like:
Trouble bzip2 reading from
C: \Program Files\Docking Station\file_list_splash.txtpartial when trying to install Docking Station, don't worry, it can be fixed!
Firstly, you need to uninstall your game.
Make sure you've downloaded your copy from a recent source such as http://creaturesdockingstation.com/.
Then, install your game, ignoring all pleas to check for updates. As the game is over 13 years old, there shouldn't be any official upgrades available.
Change the shortcut to your game to point to engine.exe, not InstallBlast.exe. To do this, right-click on your shortcut and select "Properties." Underneath "Target," you'll see a file path - it should look something like "C\Program Files\Docking Station\InstallBlast.exe." Change "InstallBlast.exe" to "engine.exe".
If you find that you get an error about "16 bit colour", then you need to change your settings to 16 bit colour. To do this, right-click anywhere on the Desktop, go to "Properties", go to "Window Color and Appearance" (Vista) and then change the colours from "High (32 bit)" to "Medium (16 bit)". If you don't get an error, don't worry about it.
To play the game, you will need to install a login disabler patch, such as the DS Offline Option available from http://creaturesdockingstation.com/ or the one included with C12DS.
