Guide to Editing the Creatures Wiki Website eprillios | 9/15/2013 | 2 | Do you want to contribute to the Creatures Wiki, but are you put off by the complex way of editing things? This article may be of help.
Welcome to the Guide to Editing the Creatures Wiki! Most likely you use the Creatures Wiki frequently to look up information about anything you want to know about the Creatures series and the Creatures Community. Creatures Wiki is made possible by people just like you, who add information they know and correct any information that isn't correct. In this guide you'll get started in editing Creatures Wiki!
Requirements
- A computer with an Internet connection (obvious)
- An up-to-date web browser
- An email address
- A Creatures Wiki account
Creating an account
The first thing you must do is creating an account. Unlike Wikipedia, Creatures Wiki requires you to create an account before you can edit stuff. These are the steps to create an account.
1. Go to account registration page
2. Enter your details (use a valid email address and a secure password!)
3. Go to your email inbox and verify your account
That was easy, eh? Let's get started editing!
Editing your first article
The first thing you must do, is finding an article you want to edit. If you found one, continue below.
1. Click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page.
You're now in the editor. Most people find it overwhelming, but don't worry - it's easy to learn!
2. Edit some text. Don't worry about those brackets and other special characters, we'll explain these in the following part.
3. Click the "Submit changes" button.
Now you see the result. Well done!
Formatting text
In Creatures Wiki, text can have special properties. For example, they can be bold, italic or be a link. We'll explain some of these below.
Making text italic: Put text between two single quotes, like this:
''Text you want to make italic'' |
Making text bold: Put text between three single quotes, like this:
'''Text you want to make bold''' |
Linking to other articles: Put text between square brackets, like this:
Placeholders
Sometimes you want to add something to multiple pages. Instead of copying the same text over and over, we use placeholders. We'll explain an important one below.
Notify other users that the article is too small, and that it could use improvement: Just put this somewhere in the article, preferably at the end:
To-do
This article is by no means done yet. This stuff needs to be added:
- adding images
- other formatting
- other placeholders
- creating an article
- creating an user page
- and more
That's it. If you have any feedback, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. Good luck editing!

That's a huge blooper there. To link to other articles, you should use double square brackets (2 on each side).

Oops. I didn't know I can't edit my resource articles anymore when I've submitted them. I hope the staff will take over the responsibility of updating the article.
