HomeCreatures' overview of Creatures Adventures.

Creatures Adventures is the first in a series of Creatures games entitled Creatures Village, the series itself is aimed at the 1 - 10 year old age and is quite different to other games.

You take charge of up to 4 Norns in a exciting interactive world on a journey through life, watch them grow up and play, learn and breed then die tragically in a huge explosion, well, die anyhow.

The main difference in Creatures Adventures is the fact its a Virtual Pet game, you have cuddly cute Norns to look after rather than to breed and watch results. Gone is the import/export feature as has in game support for new objects, two major flaws in my opinion. That said, this game has a lot going for it and to sum up, CyberLife went out to create a Virtual Pet game and has blown apart Petz in one sweep.

The World
The world is huge, and VERY different. There are many hidden and secret areas to unlock. The entire game consists of 15 theme areas to explore, naturally HC has a guide to each one for you so without further ado we hatch out Tom the Norn, named after Tom Isacsson.

Lets take a look at Tom before we continue:

Name: Tom
Type of Norn: Brown Alba Norns
Speedy.
Misc: Tom is named after Thomas Isacsson.
Now you've met Tom lets begin our adventure through the world..

Nestery. This holds the eggs, nest and cradle. You'll also find a naming so you can give the baby Norn a name. A name is suggested when a Norn is born, saves you thinking of names for those lazy people.

Dressing Up Room. Give your Norn a brand new look! There are a variety of costumes in the dressing up room. Items such as hats and boots are here, and the Elvis suits. More suits are available but you need to get to them. Take a peek at our solution centre for more information on how to access these. Your Norn now should have the dress sense needed for this years look so onwards we go...

Kitchen. The Kitchen has a never-ending supply of food for your Norns including all the ingredients to make them a special treat or two. Some cakes you cant bake until you have the items to use. There are some pans pots and dishes, you can even smash them for those who have a destructive nature.

Toy Room. Full of wacky toys as well as some more conventional ones such as a ball, spinning top, toy train and more. Even a Norn Doll sits here and also a jukebox with some music to entertain you. My Norn was very pleased it seemed with the basketball but didn't really like the balloon or pump much. However, Tom, the Norn I used to test out CA for this small guide did seem happy so far.

Front Garden. Watch the world go by from your Norn's front garden. There is plenty of wildlife to observe and interact with, this will be your first view into outside life. Tom didn't seem that impressed, to be honest. There's a dog that looks slightly odd and deranged, apart from that not much here.

Vegetable Garden. From Carrots to eggs, most can be found here. Enjoy planting flowers and pretending to be a real life gardener! Cor, exciting stuff! Tom ate a carrot here, it was quite a moment for both of us. Radishes and a range of other veggies can be found here to. Excellent place for food.

Doctor's Cart. The Norn Doctor Is In! Finally we see where he is based. As the more observant would of guessed by the name this is a cart, with a Doctor. The majority of sick, ill and upset Norns can be healed here. Sadly it wont fix cross eyed Norns nor will it give your Norn advice on shares and stocks in Europe, but apart from that tis a nice place to visit. Tom's only problem currently is lack of a skateboard I've seen on the box. The doctor did not supply me with one, to my annoyance so we move on without saying thank you.

Graveyard. SCREAM! Norns die. Sad fact of life, you spend ages raising them and teaching them for them to pass on their knowledge only to turn your back for one second to find your Norn has gone to sleep. A long sleep. So when you discover your Norn is not really very well, and being honest isn't going to get any better, when you finally relies he is dead you must dispose of him. This is why we have a graveyard. This is a excellent place for remembering and leaving them behind for the new generation. Tom isn't really going to be needing this place..well..not yet.

Past the Graveyard
Friendly Forest. Once you have passed the Doctors cart and seen the graveyard chances are you will get to this big tree thing. Lets take a look at the first impression of the tree, shall we? Big. Cute. Funny face. Big smile. Awww...how cute! the perfect "yoda" wise tree for the world. Tom seemed as keen as I was to meet this chirpy fella. So, up Tom walked, stared a little. It was then it happened. Something that will change your view of this tree.

**SHACK**

Tom shoots across half the world having been smacked by the tree. Quite why this tree feels the need to smack Tom across my world I don't know, maybe Tom wants to plan a bypass through Friendly Forest? This whole incident is upsetting to Tom, so we decide to move on. Don't worry, the tree doesn't always hit out like that.

Spooky Forest. Survived? Managed to pass the demonic smacking tree? Well now you reach the scary forest, through quite frankly if anything can top that happy tree I'll be surprised. Here you'll see a few eyes pop out, and a Owl gaze on your Norn. All very scary and upsetting but worth it to pass through.

Dragon World. Eh? Dragons? Wasn't really expecting that. The Dragons don't really do much, this world seems to be more fun for the user than the Norn, Tom wasn't really paying much attention to anything so I went off to play with the music. Woohoo! It makes music as I press it! *click*....ding! *click*....dong! Woohoo! This will be one of the fun areas for kids, they'll be sure to enjoy playing with music. After 5 mins of playing, or less, I got bored so went back to Tom, who was still plotting revenge of that Tree. Now..where's that chainsaw COB?

Haunted Castle. Spooky candles flicker in the wind, and the eyes look like they're following your Norn. They are. It seems the place is either haunted by nosy ghosts or ghosts that don't really have much else to do with their time than follow Tom, mind you, they are dead so we'll forgive them. There is a knight that walks about a bit here, interesting to watch. Either way Tom and I were feeling adventurous so off we go exploring the castle!

Dungeon. Beneath the Haunted Castle is the even scarier Dungeon. There are a number of items to do here, such as a puzzle to obtain some stuff you can use for later! There is also...gasp..its too scary to say.. what would you expect in a deep dark haunted castle? Yup...its...a cheese vendor. Slight anti climax that, either way its there and the Norns seem to like it. Tom played with this for a bit before moving on. Rats run around a little here to.

Cloud Land. So how did Tom get from deep dark dungeon to fluffy clouds? Well, after Tom went back up to the main room we discovered a secret entrance. This lead to cloud land. Interesting place, there are a few games here and most importantly a weather machine, I'll leave you to guess what that does. It wasn't long before the slide was discovered. Down Tom went...dowwwn dowwwn down... Where did it land? It landed at the base of that tree. ARG!

*SMACK!*

The worlds pretty dynamic and different, areas to unlock and secrets to find.

Breeds
Many believe Creatures Adventure excels in the 4 different types of Norn. These distinctly different breeds are as follows:

Brown Alba Norns
Brown Alba Norns can either be speedy or friendly.

Speedy Norns run about a lot and rarely sleep. They have a hard time concentrating on any one task. You may also find that they get restless when bored so make sure you have plenty of toys on hand!

Friendly Norns love to be around their friends. They love to copy others and may not eat if their friends would rather play!

Green Malay Norns
Green Malay Norns can either be dozy or clumsy.

Dozy Norns enjoy a nice nap any time of day. You may find them dozing in the strangest places! They get tired very easily, so don't over-tax them!

Clumsy Norns tend to knock into things. They're not the sharpest tools in the tool chest, but one of the most loveable breeds so they say, so if you want your own personal Spidey121s these are the Norns for you!

Purple Primrose Norns
Purple Primrose Norns can either be pudgy or shy.

Pudgy Norns love to eat! You had better watch your apple tree or they may eat all of your fruit. Oh no. Now that would be a disaster, wouldn't it? ;-)

Shy Norns are very gentle and need frequent tickles and protection. They tend to run away from the slightest noise. Shuushhh...!

Turquoise-and-Green-Striped Pippin Norns
Turquoise-and-Green-Striped Pippin Norns can either be eager or plucky.

Eager Norns may be the easiest to train as they are quite responsive. Unlike Plucky Norns, they may come when they're called!

Plucky Norns strut about and act very sure of themselves. They know what they want and will do what they want, when they want. The stubborn gits. I mean all I wanted was it to eat a apple, its not much to ask is it? In fact you'd think it was quite simple. But no. Not Bob the Plucky Norn, he makes a big fuss about it. Well now he isn't getting the apple, even when he wants it. Its my apple. So there. That showed him.

So there you have the 4 types of different breed, pretty cool.

Ok, so how do I look after those Norns?
Hatching a Norn

When you first start CA you'll be taken to the Hatchery (which the CA documents refer to as the "Nestery";) where two eggs will be waiting in the small basket by the first window. Select the egg of your choice and put it into the crib. This will incubate it so the egg will hatch.

After it's hatched you'll get a message as to whether it's a boy or a girl. From there, you'll get a pre-selected name. If you don't want to name your norn with that name, then you simply press the "X" and choose another from blue alphabet bubbles that show up. Make sure the name is correct, and it's the one you want, because you won't be able to go back and change it!

Teaching the Norn
Creatures Adventures' norns are very adventurous and bold little buggers. Ten seconds out of the egg and they'll be up and about, exploring before you can even get a good look at them. You'll need to start teaching your newborn as soon as it's hatched to ensure proper learning.

First you need to be familiar with the way you reward/punish your norns:

- The small angel, on the right side of the screen, is what you use to reward your norn when it's done something right. Don't hesitate to reward him/her often.
- The yellow squirt gun, on the left side of the screen, is what you use to punish a bad norn for doing something wrong. One squirt is usually enough for them to learn that they didn't do something right, so don't over-use it.

Now, it's time to teach your norn so it lives a happy life:

Once out of the incubator, chances are, your norn will ignore the jack-in-the-box toy and move right on to the door. If your norns are going to be able to move freely through the world, it's essential that they can use the doors. Make sure you close the Hatchery door; do not open it for any reason. The norn has to learn how to use it. Once he/she has figured out how to open the door and get itself out of the hatchery, reward it so he/she knows that's the right thing to do.

Once he/she has moved on to the dressing room, it may experiment with the hats, or the costumes that are in the closet. It's not essential for your norns to learn how to use this stuff, because it won't really affect their lives. They almost always learn how to pick up and wear a hat anyway.

Moving on to the kitchen. There is one very important food source in the kitchen: the cake. Some norns love the cakes, while others ignore them. Baking a cake is simple. There is a cook book on the middle shelf that gives you five varieties: a cake that has something which looks like cookies sticking out the side; a chocolate cake, a large muffin-like cake, a green "grendel" cake, and a carrot cake. The last two aren't available right from the start. You have to figure out how to enable them in the cookbook. Once you've selected which cake you want to bake, press the checkmark on the top right-hand corner of the right page. All the ingredients will automatically be put into the baking pan. Once that is done, put the baking pan in the oven, set the timer, and close the oven door. Once the timer runs out, the cake will be done.

It's very important that you bake a cake for your norn right away. This is where he/she has to learn to eat. Usually, the norn will spot the cake and eat it right out of the oven, but if he/she doesn't, use the spray bottle once or twice to get it's attention. When it finally eats some of the cake, reward it a lot. This will reinforce eating, and the norn will know it's a good thing to do.

It's important to always reward your norns whenever they do something you want them to. Once they've learned to use doors, and eat, they are in good shape and from there: it's time to go exploring.

Keeping them Busy
Once your done teaching the basics, and finally have your norn out and about, you have to realise they may get bored quickly. Try keeping them busy; don't let them sit in one place for too long. Keep the norn moving, but watch out for bad weather, as they may get sick.

Did you know there are seasons?
Seasons

Weather is a highly important part of the CA world.

You'll start out with Spring, and from there you'll move to Summer, Fall, and finally, winter. The world also changes in each season.

Spring
In spring, you'll want to use the little garden fork to till the ground so you can plant vegetables for your norns to eat. Once the ground has been properly prepared, throw in the seeds. If there is little rain, make sure you use the watering can to water the garden so the plants will grow. Once they are fully grown, you can feed the veggies to your norns at will. They don't grow back, though, so make sure you don't over use them right away.

The large fruit tree, to the right of the house, will also produce a unique fruit in the spring. This tree is different each season: in the spring it'll produce an apple-like fruit. The norns loves these, so don't hesitate to leave them here to gorge themselves. It's an excellent source of food.

Summer
In the summer, you'll see more animals show up. The caterpillars will turn into butterflies, and you'll see more bees. Also, the season tree will produce a new fruit. This fruit is more like an orange/grapefruit mix. The norns also love these.

Fall
In the fall, your trees will turn brown, and the backdrop will be more gloomy. Leaves will also fall from the trees and gather on the ground. Occasionally they will even blow around.

In the fall, your season tree will produce pears. I've discovered the norns seem to like these the best out all three fruit. Leave them here so they can eat a lot of food before winter comes.

Your garden will still be alive in the fall too.

Winter
The weather will suddenly get very cold; the season tree will stop producing fruit, and your garden will die.

Winter is a bad time for the norns. This is especially true for the little purple ones, who take very badly to cold weather. The best thing to do now is to get them back into the house, where you have a steady supply of food, and it's not so cold. Any norns left outside may be susceptible to disease.

Soon, spring will come. When it arrives, you can get your norns back outside, plant a new garden, and keep them exploring.

The weather/season system was more complex and visible than the other games.

I really like this article, it makes Creatures Adventures seem more complex than it's usually portrayed to be in the community. :)
