I prefer demos. Trials just put me on edge when I'm testing a game I don't want to mess around too much and run out of time. Also some games have absurdly short trial periods.

Oh my. I'd say Trials on longer games, especially procedurally generated ones. Usually a Demo can be played repeatedly without limit on numbers, but ends up being the tutorial level, or VERY short. It can get you hooked if done right. Trials are more often better in my view, as they often are a limited time, and unless you binge, or keep a schedule, you want more after so little time you used in that week or so period. Trials are best for long games, as they often give you a much longer range of content you can play through, which, despite depending on the game, only having a limited time you can use it, you can determine if you like the game better.
It depends.

i'd pick the trial, although a demo is nice because you can (typically) keep it forever and mess with whatever features it DOES have...

I'm not sure because I've never studied marketing, but as a consumer I prefer Demos. :)

I don't know the difference, but I was curious about the results. So I clicked Demos, but you can neglect that vote :P

With demos, you only see what they want you to see; with trials, you get an idea of how well thought out something is and how well it works, even if the trial doesn't have all the features.
