Revamp?  via Rascii on 10/2/2013 | 22 votes
So I want to revamp the site but don't have time to learn proper CSS web design. Thoughts?

I think the site works perfectly and the tables don't seem that annoying. But I heard too that divs are supposed to be easier to work with but it's your choice really :) I remember the good old days of using tables and only HTML for everything (which I still do) xD

I also voted no revamp. Why fix what isn't broken? :P

That was me voting "don't revamp" - I like the site as it is! - but even if you were just going to upgrade the site, CSS is worth the effort of learning, I think; making changes with stylesheets is so much easier, you save loads of time in the long run. In my (not so) humble opinion though, I think DIVs are often mis-used, and over-used. A lot of the script kiddies get "rules" stuck in their heads and won't move beyond them, even when it results in foul code.

I voted learn CSS, but if you don't have time, I don't really see the point in revamping. The site works great the way it is, tables are the only problem.

I currently use CSS for formatting the site, but I use tables for the layout. Apparently 99.9% of website developers frown upon using tables for the layout these days. I've spent a few hours trying to get a handle on divs and such, but it seems quite complicated.

WOW I'm in the vast minority. I chose tables. XD The only reason is that tables are a pretty simple and effective way to build a good site. I agree with what's been said, though: learn CSS and div stuff because they're powerful tools but I'd use them to supplement the tables.

You can always learn CSS and div in your own time; there's no hurry is there. :)

I thought you already know a good amount of CSS. . . ?

It'd definitely be beneficial in the long run to learn CSS, both for the site and for you as an individual! Plus I'm sure people in the community would be more than happy to lend a hand :)

I don't want you to revamp! I love it like it is! But if you must, I agree with Jessica...
