Creatures Online: Altar Machine Malkin | 9/15/2014 | 3 | In this week's Creatures Online update, the mysterious Altar Machine was introduced.
If you drag and drop a Norn on this machine, a short animation will be triggered and the Norn will disappear forever in an ethereal light. Thus, some genes are dropped which may be used later in the Splicing Machine.
It may be a way to ensure older and dying Norns will leave room for younger ones. Of course, it can rise some ethical questions, like a lot of things in the Creatures series… Norns do not seem to really care though, as they will wave you a last goodbye while standing on the machine. |

I don't think anyone is fighting here. People are just sharing their thoughts. It's a good thing! It keeps the discussion flowing.

Can we please stop fighting over theories for what happens to the norns? They die painlessly in a gene extractor shee god thingy and go to silicon heaven.Okay?

So apparently now you can sacrifice cute furry creatures (without them even being aware of what will happen) to your Shee overlords in exchange for new genes to create superior creatures.
...
You know, for kids!
creatures creepypasta anyone?
but seriously, i have a strange liking for dark creatures stuff (even if it barely exists) and this only inspires me. how come i haven't been kicked out of this fandom yet?

So we have lost the "Science" of the splicer and replaced it with the "Magic" of an idol. Creatures is all about science, I prefer my splicer with all of the dark implications it brings. Now if they made the idol a Cthulhu statue...

I agree that it's kind of creepy to have a "death machine" surrounded by cheery party flags.
Not really necessary either; if you were just sending them off into a Warp device to a "happy retirement vacation world" or something, they would still be gone, and you wouldn't have to feel like you'd just murdered them for their genes or because they were "wasting space".

The biggest thing I don't like about this is the colours of the flags. The magenta and the glow-in-the-dark green... But as deaths go, stepping into a pillar of light isn't so bad. Perhaps not as entertaining, but at least this one doesn't end with splicing my essence into that of Khalisah al-Jilani and my pet fish.

The word ethereal often is used in connection to ghosts and "the other side", implying death.

|
|
Well, that's why.It sends them somewhere nowhere near any of the areas you can go to.

Malkin> I still don't like using the splicing machine - even Amai's version, which puts them to sleep first!
