Embri has finished the adult sprites for BloodLuvinGirl's Flaris Norns, and has begun work on modelling the baby sprites. (Female pictured)
Embri's progress can be followed at the Flaris Norn Project Microsite.

That baby Flaris is SO CUTE! XD It's neat to see a breed where the babies actually look like babies and not just scaled-down adults.

If you look at the microsite, Embri actually goes through the design changes between the Adult and Baby life stages that she's made to make it look so mind-meltingly adorable.

G'awwwwww! I want one. I don't mean in-game; I seriously want to own one of these in real life. And I'd hug it and squeeze it and call it George.
Keep up the excellent work, Embri!
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

Hehe, I'm glad you like them. Spent the day studying baby animals (not that it was hard work! ) and applied those principles to the Adult Flaris model.. reverse aging, if you will.
Still have to do a reskin of most parts, then the transformation will be complete. I'm sincerely hoping the other stages take less time than the first... *fingers crossed!*

Embri, I second everyone's sentiments completely - these are amazing! Especially when you consider all the work and effort that went into creating them. I mean, I personally haven't heard of anyone spending the day studying animals in order to create a Norn breed before.
What I also really like is how their design differs from how typical C3 Norn breeds look - it's so refreshing. |

I forgot to mention this, but the picture in the news is actually a thumbnail... there's a larger version on the microsite.

Those are absolutely adorable! Seeing how they look in-game, and then seeing your Arboria room inspired me to try to learn how to use Blender!

Hehe, seriously it's not that big a deal D: I didn't even think it was newsworthy... I'm sure plenty of people have looked at critters as inspiration for norns.

Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure you're the first to write a editorial on the subject.

Woah, these norns are awesome. The mini-site's brill, I particularly liked the cutening tips!
I also peeked a look at the meta room site. Is that still in progress or has it been abandoned.
If it's been abandoned then you should get back to working on it, If it's still in progress then keep up the good work! |

It's on hiatus, long term.
At the moment I'm finding it hard to get motivated about the Flaris, let alone Arboria.
There are a lot of things about it I don't care for anymore, though it was the best I could do at the time.

Oh. I'm really sorry to hear that, Embri. For what it's worth I thought both projects looked brilliant. I hope you eventually find enough motivation to come back to one or both of them.

Sorry to hear about the hiatus. But as everyone else has said, those are AMAZING! Well I do hope you'll continue them someday, it would have been a waste if you gave them up front and center.
Kinda inspires me again to attempt to make genomes, shame that the editor doesn't work with Exodus. >_>

The Flaris are still planned for a Winter '08 release, assuming all goes well. That hasn't changed - it's mostly Arboria that I'm not satisfied with quality wise.

The trees don't look natural, it has some layering issues... eh, the 1001 nitpicky details... >.>

Mhrm... what are you referring to precisely? At the moment I'm working towards finishing the Flaris, so even if I'd like to work on Arboria (which I don't, really) I've given this breed priority.

Yes, this breed is for DS (and C3 as well, I assume).
I just saw the latest update on the Flaris norn site. Nice to see that the baby files are halfway done. ^_^

That they are, well the modeling is complete, and most of the male UV wraps will be just variations of the female version. (color / pattern).
The biggest task is arranging everything properly and cleaning up any stray pixels. It's coming along. =P Slowly, but it's coming.

BABY CHILD 50%
No idea what it was before, but... 50%!!!
Anything special for the other life stages? Will the adoles/youth creatures have sprites halfway between the child and adult sprites (kinda cute and kinda grown?)
Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

Yup, Baby/Child, Adolescent/Youth, and Adult all have 100% unique sprites. None of them are recycled from other life stages (though the models were, with modifications and re-skinning.)
I haven't decided about Old/Ancient...
Possibilities, from easiest to hardest:
1. Recycle Adult sprites with a tint reduction (aka the C3/DS style)
2. Recycle most of the parts with possibly small cosmetic variations (Ala C1)
3. Redo the entire set, with model and skin changes.
The one good thing is that whatever one gets done, I don't have to make new ATT files. XP

Embri, maybe the old/ancient Flarises could just have less hair? Like their hair is thinning/they have bald patches? Or even if they'd lost a tooth or two, ha ha. It would be a more drastic difference than just a difference in saturation, but it wouldn't be too complicated or time consuming. I think it would be kinda cute, too.
