The baby Nornchi nodded a little, happily wriggling around a bit in his father's lap. A squirmy little thing, but at least he was a happy little squirmy thing! An upset little squirmy thing wouldn't be good, that was for sure.
"Foo," he said, looking up at his father with a pleased grin.

Vekk smiles and, with one the treats he had received from Willia, coaxes the nornchi to let go and climb up into his lap instead. It was far easier to give the boy a hug that way than it was to bend down and do it. Though he realizes that the baby wouldn't know who he was, he found that he didn't really care. He was doing something that his own father never had the chance to do while he was alive. Noticing a piece of eggshell stuck in the younger Creatchi's hair, the older one gently picks it out and casts it aside with the rest of the pieces. An idea suddenly occurs to Vekk and he looks down at his son. Still smiling, he asks Shaen if he would like to come with him to a place where he could meet other Creatchi.

It's all good. My brain's pretty much a pile of slime at this point so no worries ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif)
The young Creatchi, still just a young baby, happily crawled to his father and hugged his leg. He didn't know exactly who the other Nornchi was, but he was the first other Creatchi he'd met, so he greeted him gladly. "Eem bibble," he said, smiling and clinging tight.

I have a feeling that there'd be a little beyond the grave interaction, but I'm going to take as much advantage of a non-mushy brain as possible. ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif)
Even though he grieves for the loss of Willia, upon hearing that the egg hatched Vekk rushed as fast as he was able to see his other son. He stops when he finally sees the little hatchling, resisted the urge to scoop him up into a bear hug. Instead he watches him play with one of the holograms that he had left behind. It brought a smile to his old face. Vekk had done much the same with the gadgets and doodads that his own father left for him.
Deciding to spend some of the time that he had left with his newly hatched son, Vekk slowly approaches Shaen slowly. His old legs were tired from all the walking and running that he had done today and he was glad to be able to sit down next to the little nornchi. He was still smiling as he greeted his young son and introduced himself.

As Shaen wakes, he finds himself snuggled into the nesting that had been surrounding his egg. The lime-green egg was now in shards.
He looked at the note, but, unable to read it, instead turned his attention to the hologram. He didn't know how to make it work, but it was pretty, so he picked it up and happily started playing with it. Whee!

After spending so much time in the lab, Vekk finally ventures forth one last time. The first thing he did was visit his unhatched son. In his paws was a copy of what had kept him there of late, a pair of holograms. The first was a learning hologram that he had titled "Lessons from Lady Hel: A Nerd-Chi's Guide to Gentlemanly Behavior" and the second was more personal, a note, expressing his regrets over having been unable to meet him upon hatching and assuring him that he did not have to keep with the family tradition of minding the lab or even have anything to do with it unless he really wished to. He fusses with the nesting surrounding the egg before tucking these trinkets next to it, where the hatchling would hopefully spot them, and waddles off to visit Hiram to hand him the very same learning holo, and then to his wife Willia to spend the remaining of their time together.

I'm fine with responsible hands adopting either of the boys. I'd hate to see them perish from neglect.

I think I may adopt this one once Spearmint is gone, but if somebody does before me, I'll be fine

Like father, like offspring. A limey egg, a firstborn, and a boy!
