How big do you guys think norns are? From the promo pics they make it seem like they're tall as us (unless they have very short plants on albia). If creatures really are tall as the average human would that mean that the shee would be bigger? Around 7'<? (Seven feet/213.3600 centameters and above if you cant read that) personally id prefer to think of crearues being the same size as todlers and the shee being around our height. What do you guys think?

I've always thought of Norns as being about three feet tall, if not smaller, because of the size comparison of the hand to the Norns. Shee I think of as sort of elflike though so I have no issue with imagining them as being quite tall.

I imagine them being roughly as tall as they appear on my computer screen, like the size of the norn figurines sorta. |

Fascinating, so your Norns would be really tiny if they were real. XD I figure they've got to be at least big enough for those insects to look the right size.
On the other hand it could be argued that they ARE real and their height is the exact size they appear on the screen because that is their world. :p

I like what Lurhstaap said, they're more real than any virtual critter : p
I'd say about half a meter or so.

Aside from my general obsession with genetics (an obsession, by the way, fomented by C1 in my childhood) my enduring fascination with this series is fueled in large part by a very powerful and instinctive sense that I am not dealing with SIMULATED or PRETEND life, but an actual, if simple, VIRTUAL/DIGITAL life form. It's not a reasoned opinion but pure gut reaction, which is why it's so compelling. IMO that is one of the series' greatest strengths and its most profound triumph. I wonder very often if there is a conscious and active God, if our reality seems to that God much as Creatures seems to us.

I always thought of them as small children....maybe 3 feet tall or so- probably about the size of a 3 or 4 year old child. I always felt the Shee was human size, albeit on the taller end like 6 ft or so. It's interesting to think about!
I'm awesome. 'Nuff said. |

Good question, I never really thought about this before. I guess I'm thinking of them as being really small, like the size of rats or guinea pigs at the most, but that could just be because they look small on the screen and/or they just remind me of rodents because we do experiments on them and they breed fast etc. |

I imagine the best approach to determining their size is to compare them to objects represented in-game that have real-world counterparts and are relatively accurate in scale to each-other. Tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, the Hand and other objects.
That said, I always imagined they were in the meter or so range, maybe even a little taller. |

I also thought they were like toddler or human infant size. But, they could be smaller, who knows..

I always imagined them standing waist height myself, but I would definitely see the shee as being something like 7', like Laura said. I may be remembering wrong, but the shee created them partly as pets, didn't they? So they would want them to be large enough to keep track of easily, but not so large that they get to be a bit of a problem. But them, I may be remembering completely wrong .

IIRC the Shee kept Norns as somewhat of a cross between pets and walking portfolios for their abilities as geneticists - sort of the equivalent of if we artists were able to make our art portfolios walk, eat, and bibble. ;p

I've always thought of Norns being about waist height... Roughly three feet, at best. They were intended to carry tea trays, so I imagine that would be a decent height.

What happened to that old fanfiction where someone got a genies wish and used it to make norns real and they were like the size of a house because of the rough estimate of how "long" Albia is? I still remember it, it was hilarious.
My personal thought has always been that norns are about the size of a 4 or 5 year old, with Ettins slightly smaller and Grendels being a very intimidating five and a half foot tall wall of muscle. |

I've always seen Shee as being an average of 9ft tall, and Norns being half their height, basically the height of a 7ish year old.

I think Norns are about the size of a toddler when born then they grow to be roughly the height of a 5 year old. I think they'd at least be a few feet tall. The shee need to get cookies and tea from the platter they serve it on after all, since they created them to be butlers.
Grendels aren't so bad, but I love Ettins! They're adorable! The complexity of creatures is quite amazing. |

I'd say, a norn would be about the size of a mobian, kinda smaller than a human.

I always pictured norn adults to be about... I'd say two feet tall at the shortest and 3.5 feet tall at the tallest. Since I basically picture Shee to be about my height (around 5 foot), norns being a few feet shorter always seemed to be about right in my book.
I also like the idea of certain norns being taller than others. Like hardman norns. I always picture them being able to see over other norns' heads.

Seems like most people imagine them as being child-sized. They do have (to a degree) little kid type proportions, and they act kind of like young children. It's hard not to think of them as being in the same size range.
It's a little odd how everything in the games is suited to their proportions, but I tend to think of it as a game mechanic meant for convenience.
Or maybe it only seems strange because we expect the Shee to be tall. What if they weren't tall(er) than us like the legendary Sidhe, but small, like modern depictions of fairies? ![[ntongue] [ntongue]](/images/smilies/emot_tongue.gif)

Then again I'd also love to hug a Grendel. They're also cute in their own way!

I always thought norns were about the size of aquarium fish. Like maybe at most 5 centimeters big. I imagine the Shee to be bigger, more like 8, maybe 12 centimeters at most big. Because how their disc world is built, I always pictured it to be like a big aquarium/terrarium for us.
But I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I wanted a terrarium just like the c2-world with lil norns in it in my room, it would've been so cool! |

I never thought it was odd that the stuff in the games was suited to Norn proportions rather than Shee. I took it for granted that we were simply seeing the parts of the world/ship designed specifically for Norns, and that the Shee had their own areas that we just never saw because, well, Norns don't typically go there when living their own lives. (As opposed to those used as servants by the Shee.)

I don't think they thought of the size proportions all that much.
Considering that most of the animals in this game are HUGE, I don't know what to use as a comparison. Let us use Pitz the dog from Creatures 2:
Pitz
Pitz comes to the Creatures' bellies. Now, if Pitz is a normal, average dog, he is about 2.5 feet tall. If this is correct, a Norn is almost exactly 3 feet tall.

I always imagined them to be child sized. Like an adult norn might get to be about 4ft at most. Ettins seem like they would be funny if they were small and child like, stealing all the gadgets... like my actual children lol. Especially if they sounded like poodle ettins... XD
I think Grendels would be 5ft tall. I think I'd poo my pants if I saw a real one. "Save me Sheebus!"
