I have had errors with Garden box from the start, so I read up on it on the GB forum. I found posts stating that problems can occur if catalogue files are in too many different places. I have catalogue files in Program Files (x86)>Gamewear Development>Creatures Exodus>Docking Station>Catalogue and also in C:...My Documents>Creatures>Docking Station>Catalogue.
In general, should I be wholesale moving anything in the Documents Catalogue folder over to the Gameware Catalogue folder?
My error experience is exactly that described in this post:
bargles.skinhorse.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=80
but the solution was to reinstall into Documents folders. I tried that a few weeks ago to resolve a different issue and on this computer it just will not work. I spent a week trying to get a configuration that would allow me to play at all and finally went back to the original install in the Programs folders.
I would rather manually move files than try reinstalling again.
Posting here rather than the GB forum because their instructions regarding reporting errors includes " Before reporting this as an error, please make sure all your catalogue files ended up in the right folder. "
So, I am more comfortable asking a general question about catalogue files here. |

Yeah, that's essentially it - you just move the catalogue files from My Documents into the analogous Program Files folder.

Yeah, reinstalling is a real pain because when you install for the first time, it sets a whole bunch of registry settings, and then leaves them there even after you uninstall, and won't change them when you reinstall, so if you move where your install is, there are all kinds of things still pointing at the old location, which is wrong now, so it screws everything up... I ran into this myself when I moved my installs recently, and ended up having to spend about an hour picking through my registry to fix everything.
You are best off moving the catalogue files to the program folder like Malkin recommends.
Installing to documents is still the best way to avoid issues like this, and the one you had with the CFEs, but unless you installed it there when you first installed creatures on your computer, you will have a REAL headache trying to get it to work properly.

yep, that's what I used to do too.. then I got tired of it, and decided to move my install, and I regretted it right away, lol... I finally got it all sorted out, but it was a nightmare, and none of the programs like the genetics editor and caos tool and stuff would connect to the game after that either until I did all that work with the registry to fix it for the new location...
It's almost like you have to wipe your hard drive if you want to move it from where you first installed it and have it work trouble free... GoG really should fix that and not leave so much garbage in the registry after uninstall. Oh well, I guess I should just count my blessings and be happy they made it so I can play these games on Win7 at all.
