Balloon Molly-Revisited Art Mioonktoo | 2/21/2014 | 1 | I told you that I dove headfirst into the depths of Lake Uncanny! (Scribbled on my phone in the free version of Autodesk's Sketchbook Mobile.)
In profile view this is the Balloon Molly ettin, an adult female to be specific. The main difference between the genders are in the fins. The fins of the males are more angular while the females are rounded. Because they are already big-bellied the only way to tell if a female is pregnant is by the color of her belly; the darker the belly, the further along that she is.
Thanks to careless breeding by aquatic enthusiasts the big-bellied trait is one of a few genetic defects in this aquatic breed, going hand in hand with a deformed spine. They are prone to digestive and reproductive difficulties and may develop problems with swimming. In spite of this they are sociable and enjoy eating. |
