Two Fat Bellies and a Frog (Click to enlarge)
Two Fat Bellies and a Frog   Art   Mioonktoo | 1/15/2013  log in to like post

A sloppy rough draft of three possible breeds in the closest medium I had available. Obviously, I wasn't particularly thinking of my color choices in ink. I just grabbed a pen, checked to see if it worked, and went from there. (We have lots and lots of pens.) The dark blue is a sort of reference to the original shape and the brighter colors the changes to it. That black blotch off to the side is covering some rather disturbing fails at matching heads. Seriously, they came out really creepy and I don't want to give anyone here nightmares with them. <.<
I'm also not sure of the size limit when it comes to picture posting, so this is not the original size. It is actually much bigger!
These might not even be Ettins if I ever get around to them. They hit me while I was in the process of modeling an Ettin body in Blender. The top two are definitely aquatic breeds while the second could be either amphibious or strictly aquatic. In case my chicken scratch is unreadable:

The top is "Pearlscale", named after the kind of goldfish it was an attempt at a resemblance to. Because of their fatness I was thinking that maybe that the belly of the females would darken in color or gain some other distinctive marking indicating pregnancy; though from the way the sprite sheet appears set up you wouldn't notice the difference until around the second or third stage.

The middle is "Balloon Molly", another fishy attempt which also includes an alternate "tail." Maybe that would be gender linked. Pregnancy indication could be made the same way as the Pearlscales.

The bottom is "African Dwarf Frog" and meant to look, well, froggy. And sporty. Includes a look at the "Flipper/Paw" and "Flipper/Foot." Unless someone actually wants a psychadelic Kermit the color scheme is supposed to be muddy. :D

Thank you, Norngirl. I'll need all the luck that I can get! With my desktop still down I hope I don't have to call for rendering assistance if the laptop can't do it. That's the one thing I haven't tested and probably should once I stop playing around in editing mode. xD

Grendel Man, funny that you should mention the Grendels! Those are actually next to upload once I finish the sheet up and get a good snapshot, and then there's a Geat that a few people might get a chuckle out of. I can only hope that the end results for both actually looks better than the concept drawings. As for the Mackerel Ettins I haven't the slightest idea so far on the genetic side, but aquatic/amphibious isn't off the table yet.

I love the concepts here - I'm a sucker for aquatic breeds, and I think it's about time we got some quality aquatic spritesets not named "Aquanorn."

I have to say that this Mackerel project intrigues me as well, even if the ettins in question don't turn out to be aquatic. While I'm more of a grendel fan, I also happen to like ettins quite a bit.

I see ^^
indeed - I guess that would make the process easier, alltought for me,Im used to draw with mouse on normal PC's,and draw in ms paint with the plate on laptop thats instead of a mouse - so I guess im a bit strange as that,as most people find that allready hard enough, haha ^^ But then again,I do all my breeds not on my laptop,as I lack adobe photoshop or anything like it,nor cpould i work with it,as it's a vista - as my regular PC is a win XP.
It's good to hear you have so much insperation,it's nice to be inspired pf things like that! ^^
Oh and yes, mackerel,I know those, that sure is a nice idea of it too :3
I wish you the best of luck for your'e breed projects and the ideas as well, sound like some nice breeds going on there : D

I will most certainly try, if I can settle on one of them! Having a more suitable mouse makes working with the program on a laptop that much easier.
I think all these aquariums that I'm surrounded by most of the day are the biggest influence behind these. Besides the fact that what I'm working on are also named after a species of fish, but it's more for the patterning on their skin. Mackerel, in case you're curious and want to look it up. I think it would be neat for an Ettin to be both spotted and striped, and to grow into them. :D

Looks like a nice idea :3
good to hear another one had creative ideas for indicating pregs with markings and stuff, except it just belly growing *had similar ideas for some of my other breeds* :3
you mentioned blender, does it mean you going to try model this then?
