Wraith Norn Concept Art Art Issy | 5/31/2013 | | Really, really rough 15 minute sketch. xD
So the body parts are disproportionate and the coloring is non-existent, save for the poorly colored eyes... I don't know what happened there, looks a little cross-eyed, and her face is smushed. I swear I don't draw this bad all the time but my tablet is being funky... it really hates Windows 8.
Anyhow, this is awkward concept art for a breed I wanted to make for many years. (Basically, a childhood dream, haha) The Wraith Norn would be based on the Wraith from the Stargate series, except well, a little cuter. XD They are a pale blue color (coloring in sketch is inaccurate) with white/blue hair. They'd become angry when "hungry", and would hit Norns/Ettins/Grendels to relieve the hunger and anger, similar to the Wraith in the TV series.
They would not require food, and would probably become ill or in pain if they did eat it, since their sustenance comes from "draining" the life force of other creatures. I'd imagine that they would have their own ability, similar to how a Borg Norn teleports, that causes creatures to age after hitting them, and gives them their food/nutrients/etc (Since that's how it goes in the TV series). It would not work on other Wraith Norns, though, even though that's possible in the series. Needless to say they would not generally be non-Wraith Norn friendly, but I'd expect them to have a high mutation rate so you could get some pretty interesting stuff as a result from breeding.
There could be an only Ettin, or only Grendel, drain-life hit thingamabob version too, if you want them to live with other Norns, and not, well, kill them. I haven't heard of anyone else with a similar idea, but it's not that original, so if you came up with this too, sorry. xD It's rather difficult to search the entire community of creatures to make sure you didn't accidentally take someone else's idea. xP
Here's a page on the Wraith from the TV series, if you don't know what I'm talking about: Wikipedia - Stargate Atlantis.
On a side note, do 3D models of Civet Norns exist? If so, I'd like to have a look at them, since these Norns are also based off Civets. I'd be interested in making the Wraith Norns into a breed, for fun. :3 I'd probably make a new model, or alter the Civet one (if that is allowed)? I'd make these guys as a learning process on making Norn breeds/agents/etc...
Since it's summer and finals are [almost] over, I could commit an amount of my time to this possible project, when I'm not at work or working on my video game. ^^ I'm up for a challenge~ Now I'm off to edit an actual Norn image so it will look better!
If you'd want to help out and make this idea a reality, let me know! ^_^
Anyway, thanks! This is my first post in the art section [I hope its the right section]! Please excuse the odd color scheme of the pic, and long description is long! D: |

Ahaha indeed! Of course, we could release them as a super-modified genetic breed first, then re-release as an actual full-on newly designed breed later on. :3
Hmm.. If they were vampires... haha, thats another good one. x3

Well, at worst I just edit the pigment genes so that they're bluish civet norns with a unique genome, You still get credit for the idea, and I still do it because it's a cool idea, and it gives me an excuse to make tribble grendels for testing puposes. If we can't get some-one to help with the caos, they end up a little more like vampires than wraiths.
Sounds like every-body still wins to me.

Ahahaha I have about 100-- or 1000 I don't remember-- unread emails in one of my inboxes... bah, social networking. Dx Spams my inbox.
Edit: Oh I didn't see that second part. That sounds awesome! I'm sure someone can help with the CAOS.
Edit2: I'm not even sure if I'll be able to do this, (new norn images-wise) but I'll look into it as often as possible. Seems fun but challenging

Cool cool cool. I need to clean out my inbox anyway. I personally don't have caos skills worth squat, so I can't make the agent you'd need for the life-draining ability, but I can add a chemical emitter for one of the unused chemicals so that the agent can recognize which norns are wraiths. Heck, the agent could probably handle the life extension, if that's the route we went with.

There are tons of websites for uploading files, and I know of a few programs where you can exchange files easily. (Sort of like some kind of team viewer thing, works as a chat that you can send files through... not sure what its called) But e-mail should work too.
Hmm makes sense. Technically, Wraith (in the show) are semi-immortal, they can still die, but not of old age, which makes that an awesome idea. ^^ I figured the wraith norn concepts were possible, since I have messed with the genome of a norn breed before and got close results to what I wanted. I didn't think of it like that though, I was kind of just.. guessing. o.o I changed what seemed like it needed to be changed and learned through trial and error. You obviously are better with genomes than me. xD
I really like your idea a lot though, I didn't know that was specifically possible. ^^ Hmm...

Well, I'm just not quite sure how it would work.
Like, email, or posting a norn and slipping the genome into the post so that you could get it, I just don't know.

I've realized there are several ways to implement the conditional immortality, for example. You could remove their ability to die of old age, increase the half-life of their "life" chemical, or make it so that "eating" increased their "life" chemical, or a combination of the above. You could make it so that they eat food until adolescence, and then the instinct to hit other creatures kicks in, and they would see it as a better option, because they wouldn't get much nutrients from what they ate.

What do you mean, exactly, about the sharing thing?
^^ Well thank you. What sort of ideas?

If I wasn't worried about trying to figure out how to share files, I would totally volunteer to work with the genome. Just seeing this gives me so many ideas.
