I would be extremely grateful if somebody could take the time to walk my thru a problem/task I am trying to achieve. Bear with me, I lack some basic computer and game vocab, so I hope this makes sense...
The ultamate goal is to save all my creatures and eggs from my old computer to be able to upload them, but my game on that computer is having issues starting.
I was playing creatures on a laptop running windows 7. The main save file worked previously but now gets the error message:
The error [DDERR_INVALIDPARAMS] has been detected when attempting to draw game sprites. Please check that your desktop is in 16-bit video mode, Microsoft DirectX is correctly installed and that you have the latest driver software for your graphics card. Extra information: CProgram Files\Creatures 2\Images\syst.S16
I have seen some solutions for this error message on this forum, but most were for Windows 10, none of the OPs for Windows 7 responded "solved", and I was scared of messing with the files in case I deleted something.
Also, I don't care too much about getting back into the game on this computer, just trying to get all the norns and eggs out and start over. However that works! thank you.

Edit: still working on this problem. Sorry if its a simple solution, but it isn't easy to find a starting point to learn about the game from someone more familiar with modern tech. trying to approach it from the angle of getting the game open. Ive unsuccessfully tried:
*changing the color on my computer (it is and has been in 16-bit)
this wiki page describes the problem, but when I log into the regedit, I can't seem to find where it says "CyberLife Technology'
