Invisible dropdown menu in Creatures 2?! | |

About the best description I can come up with. If I click on any of the dropdown menus at the top, any part of it that protrudes past the toolbar just goes invisible.
In spite of some searching I haven't been able to find instructions for a fix.
I'm running the Albian Years game from GOG on Windows 10.
Also need to do something about the horrendous lag on Creatures 2. I read somewhere that changing the display resolution would help, but it hasn't made a difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Drat! That's wrecked it completely. Now I just get "An error occurred during startup..." etc and can't get past the loading screen. |

Have you tried setting all of the .exe files in your Creatures 2 directory to run as administrator? |

Not something I've checked, no. I'll give that a go and see if it helps |

No luck with that one either. I mean, it's playable. But the invisible menus and the flickering thing the hand does are pretty annoying. Lots and lots of googling has so far failed to turn up any different suggestions either. I think my partner thinks I'm a bit daft trying to get such an old game running on Windows 10.... but I love it so much. |

Make sure Creatures 2 is installed to My Documents, not program files.
If you're like me, for some reason Creatures 2 MIGHT create another Creatures 2 folder in My Documents... if it does, delete the one you made and remember the location of the one IT made.
Then delete that one.
Install again using the location where it made the second folder. No more double folder issues.
Also, continue using DXwrapper. |

So, I think (I hope) the problem is solved. It's taken me a while to get back to tinkering with it. DX Wrapper wasn't fixing the problem and so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to My Documents. Still no fix.
But the thing Dark_Author said about double folders made my brain itch. So I dug around on my PC (last time I used it prior to 2020 was around 4 years ago so I couldn't remember much of what was on it) and I found an old folder for The Albian Years that I'd installed YEARS ago from a disc. Deleted that. Used DX Wrapper. Uninstalled and Reinstalled a couple of times because the whole thing was being a jerk but now... seems to be working. I hope it stays working.
Really grateful for everyones help |
