Help Forum "Start transaction failed"-Genetics Kit    CosmiSynth        6/18/2018  1 I'm having a major problem with the C3/DS genetics kit that I'm having no luck fixing. Long story short, I've recently re-installed all my creatures games (GOG Albian Years, Exodus, Village) and installed the original Docking Station since that's what the dev tools play nice with (I often use that install for all my dev stuff so I don't have to play with any registry/file directory stuff). Unless something else happened that I didn't notice, I installed that Remastered patch for the GOG versions of the games and no matter what I uninstall, reinstall, (I've even deleted and replaced registry files that could have been involved), or hit with a stick, I -cannot- get the genkit to inject eggs into either install anymore. Being able to use the kit specifically is incredibly important to me because I grew up using it AND the annotations are absolutely necessary for me, so please don't suggest alternative programs. I just really need a fix. Maybe there's a registry file I missed?... The Crafty Shee & Co.   GimmeCat   6/18/2018  1 You didn't mention where they're installed to, so I'll put $100 on them being installed into Program Files and that's the reason stuff is broken. 9 times out of 10, that's the answer. Try reinstalling to the root of your harddrive, like C:\Creatures\C1, C:\Creatures\C2, etc and then apply all the patches and doodads as normal.   CosmiSynth     6/18/2018 Original GOG Exodus Install Location: CProgram Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games Original DS Install Location: CProgram Files (x86)\Docking Station Also, sorry! No dice. I uninstalled Exodus and then re-installed it to the C drive as a test, and now it won't play either game - C3 or DS. "NLE0002: The following directory doesn't exist: cprogram files (x86)\gog galaxy\games\creatures exodus\Creatures 3\ Make sure the configuration file entry is correct!" Despite me uninstalling, it looks like it's still looking for the old folder location. I did re-run the patch, but it didn't act like it was patching a new install - it acted like it was updating an old one. Maybe that could be impacting on your game? My TCR Norns   CosmiSynth     6/18/2018 It's totally possible, but I don't think this is causing my current issue. Even then, I can't test the theory out either because the dropbox link in that thread is down. I think what's bothering me is that as of literally a few days ago, I was able to use the Genetics Kit with the old-fashioned original DS install (I've never gotten the kit to work with the GOG version of the game/s so I don't bother), and I had installed the GOG version of Exodus shortly before that. Therefore I'm pretty sure GOG Exodus didn't break anything. I've only been having problems since installing the remastered patch. As a matter of fact, I just uninstalled and reinstalled again and had no luck. I remember that when I bought Creatures Village from GOG.com that it hijacked my caos kit for a while. I can't remember how I fixed it, but after many months and many reinstalls of DS, it just seemed to revert back to using my freebie DS install as its primary. My TCR Norns   CosmiSynth     6/18/2018 HMMM, I DO think I installed Creatures Village around the same time I used the patch... I bought it recently during that sale where it was 89 cents hehehe. I'm going to try and uninstall that and see where it takes me, because I think that's the only thing I haven't wiped yet! I'll add an edit soon once I try that out; if Village seems to be the issue, it might be worth recording that as a bug somewhere. D: [EDIT: I uninstalled Village but also went through some other weird hoops that eventually resulted in the genetics kit working! Long story short, I uninstalled ALL of the official dev tools and deleted the folder they were in, then re-installed. The map editor still doesn't want to load from the running game world, but when I tried to run engine from the CAOS editor, I got an error message... but then my computer decided to shrug and tell me it put the program in compatibility mode. THEN running DS from CAOS worked!... Kinda weird considering I always put all these programs in compatibility mode and run as administrator anyways, but I'll take it. After that, reinstalling the Genetics Kit and ENSURING it was also put in compatibility AND run as administrator seemed to do the trick. I also found the old GOG Exodus install on my google drive huehuehuehue and that installed smoothly and without breaking the genetics kit yesssssss. ... Whelp, time to reinstall village again and see if it hecks everything up! Fingers crossed.] The Crafty Shee & Co.   CosmiSynth     6/18/2018  2 GOOD NEWS! I've safely reinstalled Village with the new installer and the Genetics Kit is still working with the ORIGINAL Docking station install!! I even installed Village to CGOG Games along with the older Exodus and Albian Years installs just to be matchy-matchy and it's not bothering anything. I haven't tried installing the remastered patch, but I don't know if I'm going to risk it now that everything's back to the way it should be. Thanks again for the help @GimmeCat and @Malkin!
