I use C3 metarooms (through C3 for DS) anyway, it's fairly clear that the ecology is woefully unstable. I'm aware there are a few 'patch ups' that are possible (Introduce the desert bug thingy to the Norn terrarium in order to support the sticklebacks, add the climbing chili to the Grendel Jungle etc. etc.) but I'm sure I don't know them all!

Two things that would help I think would be a masterguide to all such "fixes" (it's really confusing for a newbie!) and also a working link to a COB that automatically fixes some or all of the ecological deficits- the Ecology app seems to promise to do this, but I can't find it anywhere :-/

Glad you asked! Vampress made a patch for the Creatures 3 norn terrarium which makes the ecology more stable and more birds can properly reproduce. Unfortunately if I remember correctly, it replaces cosfiles which means you'll probably need to use a docked world (or c3 standalone) if you want it to take effect. It's installed to creatures 3's bootstrap if I remember correctly, and make sure you backup any cosfiles it replaces just incase something goes horrifyingly wrong

Similar to the Norn Woodland fix patch, there's the Desert terrarium fixes and some minor fixes.

There's a geat called G.A.I.A (again, docked world if you want it to work) which automatically uses bioenergy to replenish populations of critters, plants and etc. People have reported specific issues relating to it, so use it at your own risk I suppose.

There's also the Ecology Kit, which I believe is the ecology app that you mentioned, but it might not be. Nevertheless; it's useful, If memory serves me correctly you can manually restock populations using it and monitor the Cellular Automata (CA) of a specific room.

If we're talking about introducing new plants to feed your norns (which I'm pretty sure we arn't but this is useful anyways) I remember the Biodome object pack having multiple of those.

Thanks!

Followup question- I'm using the Ecology App now, it doesn't appear to have a manual replenish option so I assume (?) that it's automatic. If that assumption is right, does it automatically replenish all meta-rooms- or only a subset- for example, official meta-rooms for which it has a pre-programmed schemata?

If by Ecology App you're talking about the Ecology Kit that I mentioned, then the button in the lower right of it's panel brings up the Ecology Replenisher, though it only replenishes a few things, unlike G.A.I.A which will automatically replenish a much wider range of critters/plants/etc, and yes it's restricted to official first party metarooms.

Also I have been updating my post with more fixes in it, so be sure to re-read it if you havn't already.
