Changing the Background Music (DS) | |

I hate the DS background music, so I want to change it to something else. Since I have C3 installed on my computer, is there a way I could swap the DS music out with the C3 music? |

I've been wondering the same thing, wanting to change one of the musics... That one that plays when a Norn is sick or starving, in C3 it's piano, but in DS it's just like the Capillata hub music.
I'm sure it's possible, someone in the chat walked me through changing the death and birth musics...

To change the "Near Death" music, go into your "Docking Station/Bootstrap/010 Docking Station" folder and find a .cos file by the name of "!DS Game Variables" (or something along those lines - it should be one of the first files listed). Change the game variable named "engine near death track name" to "events.mng\\NearDeath."
If you want to give a third party metaroom music that doesn't have music of its own (which is most of them), you can change it on the fly by moving the hand into the room and entering the following into the CAOs Command Line (Shift + Ctrl + C):
targ pntr setv mmsc posx posy "file.mng\\Track" |
This does require a knowledge of what .mng file contains what track, however - something like MNGPlayer could work (though I couldn't get it to work on my current computer).
If you want to change the music of the metarooms already in DS...well, that's a little more complicated. In addition to having a track that plays for the whole metaroom, the official metarooms also have different tracks that play in different rooms. To change the music of those, you need to not only change the whole metaroom track (which is what the code above does), you also need to find the rooms with their own music and change those, too.
To see if a room has a music track associated with it, move the hand into the room you wish to check and enter the following code via CAOs Command Line:
targ pntr outs rmsc posx posy |
If it returns a value that isn't "OK," you can change the track with this code:
targ pntr rmsc posx posy "file.mng\\Track" |
If you never want to hear the original music again, you can find the .cos file named "!map" and change the music after the lines that have "mmsc" and "rmsc". Do be aware that you'll probably need to find out where exactly which music plays where before you go changing things around; lest you make your music choice play somewhere other than where you intended it.

Aha! Thank you very much! The near death one works marvelously. Now to figure out how to get it in my old worlds...

Enter the following code into the CAOs Command Line (Shift + Ctrl + C):
sets game "engine_near_death_track_name" "events.mng\\NearDeath" rgam |
I haven't tried this out myself, but it should work.
