C3/DS Wolf Run help

So after many of years of being gone I've picked up playing again. Since the demise of the DS servers, I no longer have a care for selective tending and breeding of my norns, mainly because there is just no one fun to trade with any more. So anyways I've became intrested in wolf runs. The only problem I'm having is that every time I start a run it generally ends at 2nd or 3rd generation. I run the CFI file norns. They seem to get "stuck" right around the portal button that will take them to the Docking Station. Does anyone have any solutions for this problem?

Have you downloaded the Umbilical Fix? This might be part of the problem, since that area is incorrectly classified as an elevator, rather than a door. I know this helped me out! Though I must say that I sometimes get Creatures stuck in that area, too... They just kind of sit there, frozen in place.

Hope this helps you out! Good luck with your wolfing runs!

Could it be Eat Elevator Syndrome?

The Umbilical Fix seems to have fixed the issue, and now I'm having another one. When I minimize the window at night when I go to bed when I wake up in the morning the bodies of the dead just stack up and never vanish. I've ran a couple of controls were they're in an optimal environment with all the food they could need. It seems once a certain number of bodies stack up, the norns just stop breeding and laying eggs. I've tested this a few time, and once I even had two Ancient age norns start breeding right after the bodies all cleared out. This is really putting a dent in my wolf runs. I've had two really interesting ones going on that have tanked over night due to this.

So for the shorter version: When ever I leave the game minimized dead bodies stack up. This leads to no more breeding at a certain point (not exactly sure of the number). Soon as I come back and look at the game dead bodies clear out, and breeding resumes.

The death scripts are actually set up in that way on purpose--it's intentional that a Norn's body won't disappear until the camera has moved to it and the player has presumably seen it, whereas the breeding scripts tend to check the number of creatures, period, and may not be checking if they are actually alive. I believe there are agents that make it possible to remove dead bodies automatically, although I hold wolfing runs so rarely I can't recall what they are. Perhaps someone else will be able to suggest one, or you could ask in the Cob Detectives. :)

Sgeo and Papriko on CC Chat helped me out early today, it involved changing the scripting in DS creatureInvolentary.cos. Sgeo pointed out were it was and told me what to change and it worked like magic on a short scale test. So now I'm running my 3rd Wolf Run right now and will find out in the morning if this solves the problem.

The problem has been solved! No more body pile ups and things are going SMOOTHLY.

Made it to 26 hours, and every thing was dead. I'm guessing it was a problem with the gender ratio, but I did make it to generation 22 this time instead of the normal 3 or 4, so a lot better.

Could you share the scripting change you made to help with this problem? I've been thinking of having a wolfing run going in the background one of these days, and it seems like this could be really helpful. Glad to hear it seems to have worked for you, though everything dying out must not have been too much fun!

There is one fix which makes offspring gender no longer depend on season, providing you with more equal gender ratios. That might be helpful in your case.

I would love to know about the correction to the script as well. While I don't have a computer that can run C3/DS, I'd still like to have some kind of fix available so that I can have afk wolfling runs.

Alright so go into your Docking Station bootstrap folder and you're looking for the file called DS creaturesInvoluntary.cos . Open that in a txt, or how ever else you want and you're looking for the part that reads:

* only wait if it is a selectable creature
doif game "Grettin" = 1 or gnus = 1
* wait until we're on the screen
setv ov81 0
targ ownr
loop
wait 1
untl visi 0 = 1 or ov81 = 1
endi
wait 1200

* make the creature death overlay animation agent
inst
* get the plane of the creature
setv va99 plne
* increase it by a bit
addv va99 2000

You're going to want to change the fallowing part:

* wait until we're on the screen
setv ov81 1

I was just throwing out my thoughts there, and really if that's the reason the wolfrun crashed then that's totally fine because it makes since. Generally when eggs hatch the sex is dependent upon the temperature the clutch was kept at. So sex being determined by a season make since to me, and I don't really desire a fix for it.

I didn't know that, cool! I did some research now on the internet, and it seems that that only applies to reptiles? If so, it would be a cool differentiation between norns and ettins in comparison to grendels, if only the grendels' eggs are made season/temperature dependent.

In any case, maybe the way season affects gender could be improved on. As of now, there is a 75% that an egg laid during Spring will result in a female, and 75% that an egg laid during Autumn will result in a male. For Winter and Summer, both genders are equally likely.

Awesome! Thank you very much. This should help me get going when I get my hands on a better computer again.
