I had this thing from years ago, and well the download for it on the gameware development site seems to have sorta died...
I remember being able to use it in DS and it worked very well. However, my old computer that it was installed on had to be formatted since it had a heap of viruses and didn't work at all. I saved it in a backup file since I thought the GD site might not be up or something for much longer.
Now I'm on a new computer and it won't install. It comes up with an error when I use the old file:
GeneEditor
Component 'COMCTL32.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
My sister downloaded a new GenKit, but it does not work. It opens up a Fraps setup instead. So I closed that. Then it pops up with a small setup window titled 'WinZip Self-Extractor..." and has the Setup button unclickable. 'About' and 'Cancel' are the only clickable ones. The window disappears within 6 seconds.
It is rather frustrating and I'm not sure what to do... apologies if I didn't explain this well.
Also, hi, I'm new to this site.

Hi!
Microsoft offers some ways to get that OCX file working.
Other suggestions are closing everything else down while it's installing - Google Chrome allegedly interferes with installation scripts.

Ahh, I will have a look at that. Hmm...
Oh really? Well that could be an issue since Google Chrome is what we use.
I just noticed that the Microsoft way might not work? It says things about installing/uninstalling and all that goodness. The thing is, my GenKit is not 'installed' since I cannot get the setup to work. So come to think of it, that might be why the OCX file is missing? The file isn't even there? Bah, technology. So complicated sometimes.
In any case I'll see if I can get either of these to make it work. Thanks!
Edit: Seems it was an entirely different problem? My sister deleted Fraps Setup from her download folder and it worked, seems it was trying to access the Setup but got it confused with Fraps. o.o

Hm, interesting. Glad you finally got it to work in the end!

Are there other places to download the kit? And perhaps other stuff that CS no longer hosts? |

I don't know of a specific site but you can always ask in the COB Detectives thread. Some people, like me, have hoarded the original .exe's and .zip's and will gladly share them.

Bifrost, most of the official downloads are still available on the official site, if you copy and paste the download link, then change the download link from .co.uk to .com.

Awesome. Thanks. I'll look into that as soon as I can. |
