I'm posting this under Help because even though it's sort of a development question, I suspect the answer applies to gameplay in general.

I was trying to create a food that would extend Norns' lifespan. So I put this in the eat script:

lock
snde "chwp"
stim writ from 79 5
chem 125 1
unlk

It's supposed to give them Life when they eat it, thereby making them live longer. In order to test how well it worked, I hatched two Norns (of the same breed) at the same time. I allowed one of them to eat as much of the "Life Food" as he wanted, while the other Norn only had regular food to eat. I thought, if it worked right, the Norn that was eating the "Life Food" should live longer. But he didn't, he actually died about 30 seconds before the other Norn.

So what did I do wrong? I know the Life chemical can make Norns live longer. I know lots of people inject favorite Norns with said chemical in order to prolong their lives. So why doesn't my life-food work?

Imagine your norn's life is a spool of thread running through Fate's hand. Injecting them with Life ties another piece of string to the thread, but Fate can cut the thread sooner than the spool runs out, if she so chooses.

The life chemical isn't the only thing keeping the norn alive. Its organs can still run down, it can get sick, etc. but you probably know that.

It's possible your agent isn't working correctly for one reason or another. Try using the Biochemistry Set from the CDN to make sure that the life chemical of the creature eating the food actually is gaining the effects it is supposed to.

Do note that the life chemical also affects aging-- the creature advances to the next life stage once a low enough amount of the life chemical is reached, meaning if a creature is constantly at 100% life, it will not age. So if your life food test norn aged at the same time the normal norn did, it probably was not getting the life effects of the food.
