Help Forum How do I make a good Website?    Melody      7/28/2008 How do you make a site like this? Please tell me how!   angel51431     7/28/2008 essentially by knowing HTML at the very least. You really have to do coding yourself rather than rely on any templates or pages that automatically make stuff for you. But before you do that, you have to understand that content is the most important thing on the website. Before you even think about how it will look and what will go where, gather up all the content you want it to feature. Whether its stories, pictures, downloads, facts, fiction, blogging/opinions, etc etc etc. Before you make a good website, you have to figure out what will make it good and why people will want to see it. I know we discussed how important it is to honor copyrights before, so you have to make sure that what you have is original and different from any other site you've seen. Once you have your content figured out, you can take a piece of paper and sketch out how you want it to look. How you want everything organized, where stuff will go, what graphics you want, and what "style" you want your site to have. Once you have a set plan, then you have to code. That's the easy part. You can go to sites such as htmlgoodies.com or funky-chickens.com and they will give you the basic codes, all you have to do is apply them and figure out what goes in between tags. At the very least other people can help you with html codes. Yes, I'm the forum ... Any questions? For now I'd say the best thing to do is learn the language, such as PHP (What this site uses) Or try looking up companies that will pre-make forums for you. I believe phpbb and vbulletin are some. -Karias; a bit fruity and gone bananas in the wrong climate!   Prodigal Sock Ghosthande     7/28/2008 Melody, the first thing you need to do is learn the programming language called HTML, which is what web sites are made with. It's a lot easier than PHP and you can make a very nice web page using only HTML. This page has some good information on how to start a web page, and different codes you can use. Once you have a good grasp of HTML you can try moving on to PHP, which is what forums are made with. I wouldn't recommed trying to learn PHP until you're comfortable programming in HTML, because it's a lot more complicated. But keep in mind that forums in general are very complex and making a forum from scratch is a very ambitious project--although this isn't true with web pages in general, with forums you're much better off starting with a premade package.   ws1fish   7/29/2008 i'm interested in how much Melody already knows - do you already know basic html? or more? or less? the sort of advice required is really dependent on your current level of knowledge if we're not the change we want to see if we're not the change, who will be?
