Hello,
I'm pretty much new to Creatures (had the original in '96, lost it since then), but am getting Creatures Exodus for Mac this week...
Anything I should know?
Any interesting tips/ideas etc?
Thanks! |

Hi! Welcome to Creatures Caves I've also had C1, lost it and got Creatures Exodus for the Mac.. bizarre.
You will find that a lot of things have changed between C1 and C3&DS... there are no kits, for one. There's definitely a learning curve there. There are more diseases, three kinds of food (seed, fruit, and food) each which gives a different nutrient (starch, protein, and fat respectively) and three different kinds of hunger to go with it. You don't have a 12 population limit any more - it depends on how good your machine is. I usually run about 20, but I hear some players keep over 100 norns.
I'd suggest that you start out with a DS standalone world, as it's easier to play. (No grendels - which in C3 really are vicious brutes, unlike the misunderstood grendel of C1. A lot of third-party grendel breeds are less vicious.) COBs for C3 and DS are called agents, ten of the best for new players are detailed at Ten Things You Need For Your DS World. To find out how to install them, Macintosh Creatures Evolution Engine is a page which is a supplementary to the official manual.
I'd also recommend you try out C12DS, which is a recreation of the C1 Albia as a "metaroom" - an addon room which gives you extra space on your C3 and DS ship. A zip version of it can be downloaded from here.

I would reccomend downloading all the free official breeds (except the ones that come with exodus, I think there are a couple)
The .agents files should work for mac, I hope so

I also reccomend C12DS. If you can understand German, these sites are very good:
