How can I create a creature who is captable of breatheing underwater and does not drown? I think it is something with the genetics, but all my tries haf resulted in drownd Ettins and Grendels.

I do not want to see dead Norns in that lake in the Norn-Terrarium again.

Hello Horstj!

If you just want some amphipios creatures you can download the aqua norns. You can get them in the Aquatills section of the website. im not too familiar with genetics though..

I already tried to download the Aquanorns and (just like right now) got only this:

Error 500 - Internal server error

An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.

I also tried to download directly from the Norngarden-website, where I got the same...

OT: Thank you Laura for making the topics title better!

I perhaps could offer some of my amphibic ones?
*sadly - I only have my "amphibic plop norns" left, wich I call them - theyre purple in color (apperance may varie but usuly its magma/chichi set for those who don't have any other breed installed - usuly I change the apperance now and then for some fun sprite mixbreeding - as said , and theyre fast agers with super breeding rate ^^' *is actuly using them only when I leave my online worlds alone heh ^^' - but theyre amphibic *

I know there is something you need to alter in the genom file - but even I forget what it was *blush*

All I can recall it's something with the breath genom (organ or any other - not sure) and clicking on invert should fix it...hmm Gotta take a look at my creations for clues perhaps ^^'

I've downloaded the Mermaid Norns, but I have no idea why they can survive. I coppied their "lungs" (the organ that I belive to be it) into a Grendel, the poor guy drowned and (even worse) I have no idea why! There must be something somewhere in their other 803 genes...

It could be more a brain gen that restricts the chem drowning. when submerged in water the creature would not be able to drown because it can't? I don't know..

I answered a question very similar to this one in this topic at Creaturetopia.

If you need any clarification, let me know. I've made very many aquatic breeds.

Is it possible that it is imposible to change the genes of an already living creature? I mean I changed the gene in the Creatures after they where born.

Changing a living creature's genes won't have any effect on that creature, but its offspring will inherit changes you made (assuming they inherit the relevant genes from that parent.)

This "breathing in"gene is strange! It does not continually produce äir when set to continually (0). (Of cours I tested a nondirectly createt creature (thanks to the splicer)) A diffrent gene (made to convert alcohole to ATP-decompiler) worked perfecly well. I'm afraid the only way would be creating air in a reaction-gene...

There is a gene that controls breathing, it is an 'emitter gene' I think, I forget the names. It's been a while.
Anyways, this gene emits air based on "Air Quality". If you change air quality to something else that is constant, you'll have an amphibious creature.
Making the reaction more frequent will just overdose the poor thing on oxygen. Won't have any real use.

Well, I have to admit that I was wrong, it was only the first attempt at an amphibious creature that got not directly manipulited, taht did not work. I tried again and it worked (I have no idea why the first didn't work).
Thanks everyone for help.
