(Excuse my lack of drawing ability. )
The Frost Ettins are a new Ettin (obviously) breed I am working on, so far I only have the above (badly drawn) sketch of what they look like. They will be for C3/DS and the sprites will be based on the Desert Ettins, they will also prefer the cold and seek out a nice cool place to call home.
I need to do the sprites, which AFAIK is going to take forever, unless there is a better way to do the sprites other than painstakingly editing every single frame of every single sprite, I need to make the genetics file, as soon as I can figure out how to make them prefer/seek out cold, and I might include another agent with them. (A special toy or something)
Right now my priority puts Genetics at the top, then Sprites, and finally the Agent.
I'd really appreciate any tips or links that anyone could give me to help.

We could really use some more Ettin breeds, but I hope this will not be yet another crude recolouring. Also, would it be possible to remove their impractically oversized rumps? |

I'm going to add that fur, shag sort of hair on their shoulders and chest, so it's isn't exactly just a recolouring, and it would be possible to make their behind smaller, but that gets rid of some of the Ettin feeling IMO.

Seems good. Do you want me to write a backstory of the lone shee finding them, or as creator do you call that? |

@sam999 you can write the story for them if you'd like.
@Lulutherebel oh yes.

Yay!
Do you want any agents that would come with them added to the story? If so, you'll need to tell me what they are. |

I don't think the agent really needs to be part of the story, it's probably only going to be a toy or a vendor or something.
Edit: I need a bit of help, before I start on the genome or the sprites I want to know exactly what I have to do in order to get the sprites and genomes, so that they are usable in the game. Let's say that I've just copied the sprite files and genome from the normal Ettins, how would I have to change the names of sprites? How do I associate the sprites with the genome?
Thanks in advance!

You just change the names of sprite files the way you change the name of any sprite on your computer. Usually you can just right-click the file and a menu will come up, allowing you to choose the option "Rename".
You can see an explanation of what sprite file names mean here.
Then in the genome, just look for the Creature Appearance genes. There are five--one for the body, one for the head, and one each for arms, legs and tail. They have a Parts ID and species, so a breed in Ettin Slot Q would use Part ID Q and Species Ettin. You just pick the ID and Species you want from drop-down menus. The CDN genetics tutorial (PDF) has more information on how to do it.

So if I'm right A21.c16 would be a Male child Ettin head, but how do I name them so they don't overwrite the old sprites?
Edit: Wait, I think I've got it, the fourth character is the breed slot, it's all so obvious now. Now to figure out how to do the recoluring so I can get a start on the sprites, if not I might use entirely custom sprites, they just won't look as good.
Edit2: Another quick question, what is a .gno file versus a .gen file?
Edit3: Is there a list of what all the IDs are in the Instinct genes? I need to figure out what coldness is.
I'm sorry for all these questions, but this is my first breed.
Edit4: 0.0 191 sprites, and that's only one sprite file!? I can't imagine ever finishing thousands of sprites, is manually doing each and every sprite the only option? They couldn't have implemented sprite rotation into the programing rather than the actual sprites?
As it stands, unless I have another, far less painstaking way to do the sprites, this project is on indefinite hold, sorry but this is just too much work for my taste.

Yes, you do have to make them all manually. Why did you think we all treat breed creation as such a hard process?

True, well I might pick it up again if that is the case I'll most likely be swapping over to C2. Just over 100 sprites a file is very preferable to nearly 200.
Edit: I have now officially restarted the breed for C2!
The reason is that there are less sprites per file and there is only one life stage.
Sorry to everyone wanting this breed on C3/DS, and sorry to sam999 who was writing the story.
Edit2: Any ideas for the breed slot? I'm thinking Ettin slot U, which conflicts with the Cat Norns and Pallid Ettins (Which seem to be unavailable) if anyone could suggest another breed slot, I might release two versions for different slots.
Edit3: I've already finished all the sprites except the heads, which I have been dreading, but after promising a release, and spending all the time on the other sprites, I can't turn back now.
Edit4: I've done 30 out of 120 sprites for the male head, I haven't started on the female head yet, and I've started the genetics file.
The Frost Ettins prefer the cold to the heat, and heat can hurt them so be careful with them near heat! :S
Soon I'm hoping to be able to have some people help test the breed to make sure the genetics work correctly.
PS: Someone please post so I don't need to keep editing!
Edit5: Anything else people want from the genetics?
Edit6: Post?... anybody?
Edit7: 60/120 for the male head sprites, feels good to be reach such a milestone, until I realise it's really 60/240. *sigh*
Edit8: Maybe a picture will get you posting?
Edit9: Forever Alone (In the thread)

It's nice to see that you've got the project off the ground with some sprites! Just looking at them is making me feel cold. |

Thanks Laura, I'm hoping that if I stay at my current rate of spriting I should have all the sprites done by the end of the month, not making any promises though.
