(Disclaimer: I hope this is the right forum for this topic. Also, I apologise if - as is very likely - this little funny has been covered before.)
A while back, I changed my desktop wallpaper to the classic 'hatching Norn' image from the first Creatures game, so I've been looking at it a lot, lately. And then I realised, it doesn't make much sense.
Link to the image in question.
I understand what the artist was going for, and I understand about 'artistic license' and 'art cheats' and such, but ultimately... WHAT IS THAT NORN'S HEAD SHAPED LIKE?!
The top half of the egg isn't sat on its ears, or anything. It's just hovering there, unless the Norn has an unusually tall head.
Again, I understand the general idea of what the artist was going for, and I am not complaining. I just find the results a bit amusing after staring at it for so long, and wanted to share it.

Maybe it's a splicing experiment. If you think about the shape of a Grendel's hair, it almost works. |

Hah! I'd never noticed. The bit on our right might make sense as it's kind of lying on the ear, but the other side's definitely hovering. |

Aaah! Now that it's been pointed out, I don't think I will ever unsee it!
I'm gonna tell myself that the egg shell is just balancing on the ears. There's a shadowy bit on our right which could be balanced on the ear... if verrrry precariously... |

What you see here is the hatching of a very rare Uninorn; the shell is resting on the horn.
