Hiya! So, I tend to play C3/DS fairly vanilla, installing Advanced Muco and that's about it. However, I know there's a bunch of addons out there that really enhance the gaming experience. I wanted to know: For you guys, which agents, breeds, and other game modifications would you download first upon installing the game fresh?

First of all fixes. Seasonal gender bias, that grendel thing from the banshee pack (the one which also installs the egg, just kill-hots it lol), a brain fix of choice like CFE, CFF or TWB.
Hmmm... Some convenient means of instant vocab, my personal choice typically reverts to multiagent gold's light bulb button.
A small creatures laboratory, consisting of stuff like the egg hatcher, portable egglayer & genome injector, my super splicer [/shameless self-advertising], eggernator, maybe some sort of chemical injection device...
Egg finder advanced is super useful too.
Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... |

If you're going to play a docked world, I'd suggest the "Umbilical Fix". Creatures sometimes hang around the door/elevator connecting the two ships, and the fix helps.
I'd also suggest the "Modified HLM". Sometimes creatures start using the learning machine over and over again, which can get annoying, and this makes it so they can't.
I almost always use "Elevines" and "Magic Words" (to edit rooms) to add extra elevators and block off ledges. More elevators help cut down on creatures getting stuck going up and down in the ones in the game. Blocking off ledges keeps creatures from falling and getting hurt. Though I don't know how vanilla you want to go, so maybe this won't be something you want to do.
There is also "Protective Tub" and "All-Creature Autonamer" to name creatures if you don't want to do it yourself. "Creature Nametags" is a fantastic agent as well.
And sometimes if I want to be nice, I'll use the "Grow Control Plant" to prevent drownings in ponds. It produces fruit as well, and it won't over populate your ponds because it only grows when you double click on the fruit. It also only "dies" when you double click the plant itself.
Aside from the ones above, I'll also inject toys made by the community. I like how they look more than the in-game toys, and they tend to not make annoying sounds. A couple of toys can also help reduce anger, which can be useful for some of the more aggressive breeds. |

Ghosthande wrote a list of must-haves a few years ago, it might be good for a start.

All of Vampess's fixes are good.
I have the bramboo fix (which stops invisible bramboo from filling up your world) and an updated creature breeding script that fixes the issue where creatures, which can't tell male creatures apart from female creatures, would get punished for pushing creatures of the same sex as them, resulting in them deciding that pushing creatures was a bad idea.
The updated breeding script is not required if you don't have a brain fix, as vanilla creatures forget everything every time they go to sleep and therefore only do things based on their instincts.
EDIT: The "i have the bramboo fix" paragraph was meant to explain that if you couldn't find those scripts, I could send the cosfiles to you.
Note that my updated creature breeding script has the lines that check roomtype in egg hatching edited, because I was raising amphibious creatures. It's a very simple edit, I left instructions on how to reverse it, and the file is legible when opened in Notepad so no special programs are required for editing it. |

Thou must have some metarooms, too! While with Creatures 3 AND Docking Station docked there is almost certainly enough room and food for your creatures, meta rooms can really enhance the experience - there are rooms good for toxic creatures, good for aquatic creatures and so on!
You'll likely want to pick a single improved brain type and stick to it. Thankfully all brain types have some representatives amongst the breeds.
I document some of my playthroughs in a blog-style fashion with comments enabled. I may just change them into a blog, but if you're interested in reading such things beforehand, feel free! |
